How do RC Sailboats work?

Where can I race a RC Sailboat?

You can race a RC Sailboat virtually anywhere. Although, racing in the ocean may not be the best idea if you’re very invested, both emotionally and financially, in your boat.

This is where lines come in. A lot of users will have a line system to ensure that if there is a crash and their boat sinks, or whatever the case may be, they can still retrieve their vessel without actually having to go into the water.

Are there are RC Sailboats that use wind?

Yes! Some RC Sailboats do not use electricity or a motor as a source to run. Some only work with windy weather, but still require a controller for steering, drawing the sails, etc.

What happens when the wind stops?

This is another instance where a tow line comes in handy. If the wind stops you have two options – wait for it to come back, or use your tow line to reel it back in. Some users have small tugboats that are able to go out and retrieve a RC Sailboat that has a downed sail, has stalled, etc.

What if it tips?

Hi Annette, I too am looking for a 1 meter or 3 foot sailboat. Had a “Tradewinds” that was 3 feet long and loved it! BUT, the 5 pound center board weight (I used BB’s) was hard to find…. Want to get one so it can be sailed in the pond/small lake outside. A friend got one too and we used to “race”. But, we had no buoys – there are usually two or three and depends on the size of the boat.

In the Chicago area, Wisconsin, Chicago, Indiana (Munster), Michigan, and Florida (about 20 miles from Orlando) – we were lucky and I was sailing anywhere from 13′ to 45′ boats. People that did not know me were freaked out when I could sail.

Another boat makes sense here. And, if I had two, then another person can sail too. And, I can make buoys that are needed to race boats. Hmm, that is a good idea.

I am a former professional licensed Captain, sailboat dealer and racer who is now landlocked. Looking to start RC sailing, but prefer to identify key class associations, publications and such information to make sure there is a strong RC class or one design to guide me. Brighton Boat Works is proud to be a US distributor for the exceptional new IOM the Goth MX14 . Designed by the legendary Australlian Frank Russell with production machining designed and produced by Maurizio Morbidelli 's Italian Company MX Components. This boat comes from the factory complete with Hull, Deck Fin-box,Deck accessories, Carbon Fiber Foils; both rudder & Keel, Carbon fiber coated Ballast. Additional included deck accessories are a radio pot, Rudder arm, mast ram and main sheet riser, and silicone nose bumper. Just add servos and rigs (we are happy to provide those as well!!) and you are good to go racing! This Item is Special Order Please allow 8-10 weeks for delivery.

THe MX14 is the next evolution of the extremely successfull Goth Hull design.The MX14 features a 12mm narrower beam and additional forward deck volume. The new design is complete with a new keel, rudder and bulb design. The MX14 is available as either a single color boat or a 2 Color boat(Hull and Deck). Any Color may be selected from the RAL Color Chart. That chart can be found at http://www.ralcolor.com/ . Please specify the desired color when ordering. Color is added to the boat in the mold to insure an excellent finish without the additional weight of a gell coat.

The deck, hull, fin box and deck accessories are assembled at the factory. all openings to the hull are factory cut. Additional Accessories for this boat include:

Version Info: This is the High Performance version which includes a powerful 3658-2150Kv inrunner motor with new 12-blade fan. As of 11/8/2023 the "Tiger Meet" decals are no longer factory installed, but come ready to apply.

Introducing the Freewing Mirage V2! This incredibly popular 80mm EDF has been updated to “Version 2.5” for 2023 and now features hybrid gear servos, a vibrant “Tiger Meet” livery for enhanced visibility and this High Performance version now includes a new 12-blade fan and powerful 3658-2150Kv brushless inrunner motor, 12-blade EDF and reverse thrust 100A ESC! All of these upgrades make the Mirage V2 more precise, faster, more fun to fly, and most importantly, more easy to see!

The Dassault Mirage 2000 is a French multirole, single-engine fourth-generation jet fighter manufactured by Dassault Aviation. It was designed in the late 1970s as a lightweight fighter based on the Mirage III for the French Air Force (Arme de l'Air). The Mirage 2000 evolved into a multirole aircraft with several variants developed. Over 600 aircraft were built and it has been in service with nine nations.

As you've come to expect from Freewing Model, the Mirage 2000 is loaded with scale features and performance componentry. The 12 blade power system provides enough static thrust to maintain a hover, with the aircraft’s nose pointed perpendicular to the ground! Hone your piloting skills to bring this aircraft to a standstill in the sky, then power out for a blistering fast pass down the runway! In the landing pattern, this delta winged wonder slows down remarkably well for nose-high landings.

Re-tuned from the ground up, the Mirage V2 brings this fan favorite into the modern EDF era, including 3D Printed Upgrade Parts (“3DPUP”) sets, sold separately. Enhance your Mirage’s exhaust nozzle or cockpit with highly detailed parts that eliminate any worry of dark colored cockpit foam blistering in the sun.

The Dassault Mirage 2000 is a French multirole, single-engine fourth-generation jet fighter manufactured by Dassault Aviation. It was designed in the late 1970s as a lightweight fighter based on the Mirage III for the French Air Force (Arme de l'Air). The Mirage 2000 evolved into a multirole aircraft with several variants developed, with sales to a number of nations. The variants include the Mirage 2000N and 2000D strike variants, the improved Mirage 2000-5 and several export variants. Over 600 aircraft were built and it has been in service with nine nations.

We are proud to offer the Mirage 2000 as our latest model in the 12 blade 80mm EDF offering. As you've come to expect from Freewing Model, the Mirage 2000 is loaded with scale features and performance componentry. The new 80mm 12-blade EDF with metal housing powered by a powerful 1750Kv motor produces nearly 6 pounds of thrust for awesome speed and incredible maneuverability. The sound produced from the 12 blade EDF will simply blow you away. While 5 and 6 blade EDF produce a high pitched whining sound, the 12 blade EDF with metal housing produces the "whoosh" and air crushing sound similar to a gas turbine jet.

Additional upgraded features include a 80A Hobbywing ESC, 9g precision servos, and electronic retracts with full metal shock absorbing struts. Own the latest, highly detailed, best built RC foam jet on the market from Freewing - the Mirage 2000.

The Mirage project 14310 fast patrol boat is designed by the Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau in Saint Petersburg and production is underway at the Vympel Joint Stock Shipbuilding Association in the town of Rybinsk in the Yaroslavl Region of Russia.

The role of the Mirage fast patrol boat is to carry out protection of territorial waters and exclusive economic zones, and to provide support to police, coastguard and customs forces. In August 2008, it was deployed by the Russian Navy in a naval encounter with Georgia.

Mirage design

The vessel is capable of operation in rough seas up to sea state 7. The hard chine hull features a transverse step and a transom flap. The bottom of the hull is equipped with stabilising fins, which are controlled by electric servo drives. The stabilising fins give rise to a 2 to 2.5 reduction in the roll, a 1.5 fold reduction in pitch and vertical acceleration by 20% to 50%. The boat remains afloat even when one watertight compartment is completely flooded.

The boat’s hull and superstructure are constructed mainly from aluminium magnesium alloy, which has very high strength and a yield point value of 180MPa. The hull is subdivided lengthwise into watertight compartments. The main engines and rotating machines are shock-mounted. The fore bulkhead of the engine room is covered with Polyacryl-VS vibration absorbing material and the surfaces in the crew spaces are clad with Viponite vibration absorbing material.

The Mirage is equipped with an AK-306 automatic artillery system and eight Igla-1M portable air defence missile systems.

The 30mm AK-306 automatic artillery system is supplied by the Tula Engineering Plant JSC and the Sporting and Hunting Guns Research and Design Bureau both based in Tula. The AK-306 is installed on the front deck and provides defence against lightly armoured land and sea targets, floating mines and isolated airborne targets. The system is equipped with an AO-18L six-barrel automatic gun with an electrically driven revolving barrel cluster.

The gun mount magazine holds a 500-cartridge ammunition-loaded belt. The firing rate is up to 1,000 rounds a minute and the muzzle velocity is 880m a second. Air targets can be engaged at a range up to 4,000m and sea and coastal targets up to 5,000m.

The ship carries eight Igla-1M portable air-defence missile systems. Six systems are stowed along the sidewalls of the superstructure. Two missile systems are installed on the action station guard supports on the afterdeck ready for immediate deployment.

The patrol boat also has spaces for the installation of pedestal mounts for two 14.5mm machine guns together with 1,000 rounds of ammunition, a Shturm missile system with Ataka missiles or the Vikhr missile system with six missiles.

The Mirage is equipped with a surface search I-band radar and a low-light level television camera for night-time surveillance.

The Mirage also has navigation radar, a gyroscope course indicator, MK69-M2 magnetic compass, log and echo sounder, radio navigation system, satellite navigation equipment (global positioning system) using positional data from the Russian Tskada space navigation or from the USA Transit space navigation system.

The Mirage is equipped with two diesel engines each operating with its own shaft and fixed-pitch propeller. For operation in temperate climates the boat is equipped with a type M520 diesel engine which provides a maximum speed of 50kt. For tropical climates an M520 TM5 diesel engine is fitted: in a tropical climate at an ambient air temperature of 34°C, the M520 TM5 gives a maximum speed of 48kt.

The M520 and M520 TM5 are water-cooled four-stroke diesel engines, with drive turbo compressors and a reverse reduction gear. The boat also has two diesel generators with a rated power of 50kW each.
