Smart Yacht Solutions

Marine Applications

You can now do many things that we can control in Smart Homes and more on your mega yachts and boats as a Smart Yacht.

Now, let’s list the features of our automation system, which gives you comfort, luxury and entertaintment on the water as a special experience for you. The rest is up to your imagination!

Lighting and Climate Control

Energy savings are achieved thanks to the heating system, which is activated before you go to your luxury smart yacht. The safety of your crew is ensured by automatic control of the exterior lights of the yacht. The interior temperature of the cabins is provided by a thermostat. By transferring GPS and navigation information to TV or touch panels, you can share the remaining distance to the destination and its coordinates both for yourself and your guests on your yacht.

Lights can be turned on, off and dimmed automatically according to certain times of the day. The blinds are automatically opened and closed according to the weather conditions or the sunrise and sunset, providing the most suitable daylight inside the cabin. Audio and video archives from different sources can be managed from a single environment and played in any desired room of the yacht.

A Control4 Case Study Aboard a Luxury Yacht

Take a look inside our recent work on a florida yacht including a yacht stereo system, lighting control, and more.

Control4 automation is usually associated with home control—but who says the home has to be on land?

Our home automation company, First Priority Audio, recently installed smart marine lighting , audio, and centralized control features on a luxury yacht. With a new yacht stereo system and lighting scene control, the owners of this magnificent boat will be able to transform the mood and entertain guests while out at sea.

Curious to see what’s possible with automation aboard a luxury yacht ? Get inspired by our case study in the Fort Lauderdale, FL, area.

Yacht Lighting Control

This client already owned a Lutron lighting control system but wanted to switch to Control4 to manage lights alongside audio and other technologies. We installed Control4’s contemporary wall keypads to work with the Lutron HomeWorks framework. Customized buttons include lighting scenes like “Morning,” “Breakfast,” and “Formal Dinner” that will transform the color and brightness of the boat’s lights.

We also incorporated motorized shading to be controlled alongside lights with customized scene programming. The scene control on this yacht is unique because the crew can trigger scenes outside the cabin.

As for the boat’s older, existing lighting fixtures, we set dimming limits to prevent flickering. The result? Uniform, beautiful lighting shines across the yacht in customizable settings.

Yacht Stereo System

From summer playlists to TV audio, the yacht’s owner can now enjoy media across the boat with their new yacht stereo system. In-ceiling cabin speakers and outdoor marine-grade speakers will play in unison and are easily controlled through the Control4 interface.

Engineering for Remote Access

To support the yacht’s systems from anywhere in the world, our team engineered redundancies to enable remote support through Control4 and OvrC cloud management. We installed a mini-computer onboard to remotely control the system and troubleshoot any issues—even from many miles away. So in the future, if the client needs any changes or upgrades, we can accommodate them sooner by doing it remotely.

Customized Programming

This client had a few unique programming requests, like a timezone-oriented sensor for exterior lights. At the same time each day, no matter where the boat is located geographically, lights will turn on to illuminate the yacht’s name board and perimeter. The new “Cruising” scene instantly turns off all interior lights (besides the VIP suite) to minimize glare as the boat glides across the water at night. We were able to customize all these unique scenes through the Control4 system, making it easier to achieve desired light settings.

If you own a yacht or boat and are interested in lighting control and stereo systems, First Priority Audio is here to help. We program and install marine automation systems in South Florida customized to your unique needs. Contact us here to learn more and get started today!

World’s largest control4 superyacht av installation.

November 17th, 2015

control4 yachts

Veritais has carried out what is possibly one of most far reaching and highest specification audio installations yet seen on a Superyacht for the Control4 system. Titania, the 73m / 239′ motor yacht built by Lurssen in 2006, is one of the most distinctive yachts in the world, and she has just benefited from a completely new level of audio system, fully controllable via touch screens in every cabin, covering everything from TV and movies to lighting, blinds, air conditioning and CCTV.

Veritais, a leading global consultancy and supplier of audio systems for luxury yachts, was commissioned to carry out the project only after Titania’s owner had trialled the system in his house with a view to going ahead with the full onboard system. The AV refit was carried out in Marseilles over several months with a team of up to eight personnel from Veritais working at any one time. “This is one of most far reaching AV specifications with Control4 that we have ever designed,” comments Veritais’s David Milner. “Veritais had been recommended to the owner and engineer, and following our successful proposal, we have been able to source and integrate the most advanced products on the market, enabling us to continually use new technology as it becomes available.”

The system consists of independent zones that can play video and audio sources locally as well as sharing the media stored on the network drive. The main areas each have a wireless 7” Touch Screen which will provide full control of the zones’ AV systems including the TV, amplifier, media player, DVD player, TV lift, lighting, heating and blinds. The main controller for the system is manufactured by Control4 and manages the entire system.

Veritais undertook an extensive rewiring programme as well as providing a large amount of new equipment including 16 Sky HD decoders and TVs for each room, 16 in total, installed in each cabin and general area along with the 7” tablet for complete control including music browsing as well as TV and accessing the main movie server. TVs and speaker/amplifier systems are also fitted in the areas, including owner’s study, massage room, guest cabins, and main deck lounge, bridge deck saloon and dining area where Sony 75” or 49” TVs are installed. Zones can be ‘grouped’ to all output the same music or video, in ‘party mode’. The Jacuzzi area and sundeck also have similar AV systems.

An upgraded Wi-Fi network has also been installed throughout the yacht to ensure high availability and commercial strength security, which, given the structural density of the yacht and its size, needed specific and robust solutions. Three Cisco switches have been installed totalling 144 ports of gigabit and POE which will provide a robust and flexible network backbone for connectivity. Also at the touch of a finger on the Control4 pads is lighting and blind control. All lighting ‘scenes’ are programmed into the system and controlled and enabled via the touch screens. Similarly heating and air conditioning is included. Crew and guests can also see the navigation charts of their location on their individual cabin screens.

Michael Fenton of Titania commented “Veritais have been open, honest and pragmatic throughout the project. They respond rapidly, and genuinely want to help, offering a robust and reliable solution. Nothing was too much trouble. They were accommodating of last minute changes and worked extremely hard to deliver the project on time. Veritais have a great team and I enjoy working with them. I’m sure we will do more business together in the future.”

Veritais will return to the yacht in the next few months to fit out a cinema fit out with a 3 metre screen.

Entertainment Systems

Entertainment systems are a must-have feature for yacht owners, but ease-of-use and simplicity for guests on board is also a key element that can’t be ignored. Reliability is also a hot point for yacht owners. Some features of the automation system remain in constant use throughout the day, so it’s imperative that it works consistently and without fail—especially when taken on the waves.

This is why Fine Line Marine Electric works closely with Control4®, the leader in affordable IP-based home control systems. Control4 technology is at the heart of an expanding ecosystem of leading consumer electronics products designed to work together with ease.

control4 yachts

The A/V integration is a relatively small part of the entire Control4 yacht automation system, but it plays a vital role in keeping the owner and the guests entertained. Whether they are having breakfast, sunbathing or enjoying evening cocktails, Control4 allows any party-goer to take control of the tunes via Airplay and stream their own music anywhere on board.

Imagine controlling your projector and lifting or retracting your projection screen with a simple button press from an iPad or Control4 Touch Screen…. From the same handheld device, movies and music can be played instantly, TVs are recessed behind moving picture lifts – also easily concealed when not in use. Well, all of that is possible!

Questions before I visit an Installer

Buckeyeamps.

I have finally decided to look into Control4 for my somewhat simple HT room as I just recently got a Trinnov Altitude and would love to communicate with it over IP via a remote. But before I visit my local boutique store/dealer, I wanted to see if my thought process is correct:

For a simple single room setup where I need both IP control and IR control, all within a Salamander cabinet, The EA-1 would be a good controller to ask about, right?

And for remote, it is either the 260 or the Neeo?

From there, it would just be a matter of the installer setting up the remote to control my A/V devices either by IP (like the Trinnov and Kaleidescape) or by IR using the IR outs on the EA-1 connected to blasters?

Just a thought, if memory serves (I got rid of my kscape 5+ years ago) you could also look to play movies by picking them from a visual menu on the remote. But you'd need the touch screens to see the movie icons.

Personally I was always happy just viewing the kscape menu on the screen and picking what we wanted to watch.

But before I visit my local boutique store/dealer, I wanted to see if my thought process is correct: For a simple single room setup where I need both IP control and IR control, all within a Salamander cabinet, The EA-1 would be a good controller to ask about, right?  And for remote, it is either the 260 or the Neeo?  From there, it would just be a matter of the installer setting up the remote to control my A/V devices either by IP (like the Trinnov and Kaleidescape) or by IR using the IR outs on the EA-1 connected to blasters?

An EA-1 is not only perfect for 1 room installs like this but can also expand to more very easily. My whole home runs off a single EA-1. The biggest reason to move to a different controller is for the integrated audio (i use Sonos and Russound).

Thanks! Is my line of thinking how the install would go/how things would be controlled about right, too?

If the dealer gives me a choice, is the Neeo remote worth it over the HR-260?

He should give you a choice.

You're paying for the style, in operation they're similar. If you're going to do lighting and such, that can be a better experience on a Neeo. Adjusting volume, channels, playing a movie, pretty equal.

Last question: how customizable/how much of the programming of the remote can I change once Installer setup is done now that Composer HE is available?

Like if I change out a device for a new brand or model, can I edit everything to incorporate the new device on my own? Or can I only make small changes to buttons/commands of existing devices/activities programmed by the installer initially?

you cannot change out hardware or add hardware, dealer has to do that.  with Composer HE you can program scenes, individual buttons, complex actions, etc.

Neeo - does not have backlighting and no keypad so channel surfing isnt ideal but you get a nice screen to do other things in C4.  SR 260 isnt as pretty but its more of a normal remote for watching TV.

This is just my opinion but the SR-260 is the better remote.

Have a serious talk with your dealer about these expectations. Control4 is not a platform intended for "reprogramming" by an end user.

HE allows adjusting of lighting scenes, creating macros of events, and doing the nifty stuff that provides a wow. But it won't let you add components, or move the Apple TV to Input 3 from Input 4, or change the skip button to slow motion. However, there are dealers here, and your own, who can add a new device, or change an input, remotely. You're not stuck with your dealer, but you need a dealer occasionaly depending on how often you change components.

I agree.  If you ride the buttons and want to be able to control without looking at the remote then the SR-260 is better.

or have to charge it every night…

I need to do a race with a new out of the box Neeo versus a new Savant X2 because well…both batteries suck.
