sandringham yacht club weddings
Giordana & daniel’s classic & simple sandringham yacht club wedding.
Giordana & Daniel
We simply adore this classic and simple Sandringham Yacht Club wedding! Complete with fresh white and green bouquets, an elegant Mariana Hardwick gown and the Melbourne sunset of our DREAMS, every moment is divine. Perla Photography captured the day.
Giordana and Daniel met through the bride’s cousin, who was also a close friend of the groom. After a slow burn romance, the couple fell in love and the rest, as they say, is history! The bride shares how Daniel made it forever, telling, ”Daniel proposed to me on vacation in Koh Samui, Thailand in 2016. Whilst being led down to our private villa, I walked into the room first to find 32 roses (one for each month spent together) and a ring on the bed. Daniel dropped to one knee, and of course, the answer was ‘yes!’.”
Wanting a simple, elegant and and classic day, the bride chose a made-to-measure Mariana Hardwick gown. She shares, ”I chose the gown for its simplicity. After having tried on a number of dresses at a number of stores I picked a dress that I really liked and decided was the one. However, when I went back a few weeks later to try the dress on again and process the order, I saw ‘the dress’ newly displayed on the mannequin behind in the mirror reflection and immediately changed my mind. I tried the dress on once and put through the order on the same day without any hesitation. The staff and designers at Mariana Hardwick were all so helpful through the whole process and made the experience so special. I am fortunate to have had my Nonna’s engagement ring given to me when she passed. I wore this on our wedding day as my something old.” The groom and groomsmen wore Peter Jackson navy suits with a black bow tie, white pocket square and black patent leather shoes.
Family played a large part in Giordana and Daniel’s day, with their favourite photos taken being of their grandparents. Of the venue for the ceremony, the bride tells, ”We chose Star Of The Sea College Chapel. I went to school there and always believed the chapel to be so amazing with its stained glass windows. We wanted to have a Catholic wedding however both felt it quite overwhelming to get married in a large church we both didn’t know or recognise. The chapel was both small and intimate, and somewhere I had a connection to. I was walked down the aisle by both my mum and dad to Hearts and Colors version of ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love’. We wanted the ceremony to be short and sweet and we didn’t write any of our own vows.” The couple included several readings from the Bible, along with Prayers of the Faithful, read by family members.
Continuing the classic and elegant theme, the bride chose white flowers with greenery. She shares, ”Our flowers were done by Debbie O’Neill . The bridesmaids’ bouquets where the exact same as the brides except smaller. We had two vases of flowers at the altar of the chapel. The same style and flowers were used throughout the whole wedding. Debbie did a phenomenal job, I could not have ever imagined them to be so beautiful, particularly with the bridal bouquet. She went above and beyond on the day and made the venue look amazing. She included my favourite flower (tulips) on the bridal table and cake table, none of which I asked for.”
Along with simple and gorgeous, Giordana and Daniel wanted their day to be fun and were thrilled with how it was captured. The bride shares, ”We chose Perla Photography to be our wedding photographer and it was one of the best decisions that we made. Perla display such simple yet beautiful photography, showing not only the bride and groom but candid photos of the guests. We wanted our photos natural and light-hearted and that is exactly what Perla captured for us. Having such a big group of guests, we made sure to have more than one photographer so we could have photos of the guests throughout the day and night. We didn’t only want photos of ourselves. Perla Photography and Carl TV both made the day feel fun and stress free. There were moments when we forgot they were there filming. It all felt so natural.”
In choosing a reception venue, the couple only looked at one. The bride tells, ” Sandringham Yacht Club was the first and only venue we looked at. My mum has a connection with the Yacht Club as she used to sail there before I was born. It was her idea we go and have a look and we both loved the venue itself (the room didn’t need much if anything at all to look stunning), its amazing views of the bay and city in the distance and the service provided. The team, particularly Melissa, provided great support and service throughout the planning leading up to the day and on the day itself.” The couple incorporated gold from the invitations through to the candle holders on the tables, with white and gold bonbonniere cookies for their guests. They also decorated with fairy lights, which they say, ”topped off and completed the room and made everything look so special.”
The newlyweds had their first dance to ‘The Way You Look Tonight’ by Frank Sinatra. The bride shares, ”We had no dance lessons leading up to the day, maybe a few trials in our living room the week before.” The couple gave personalised wooden coasters from JiMi Official to their guests, using them also for name placements on the table.
Thank you to our beautiful bride and groom for sharing your wedding with us and congratulations! Thank you also to Perla Photography for your photographs.
More for you...

Sunset soiree for carla and mauricio’s sandringham yacht club wedding.
Rebecca Crozier
After six pandemic postponements, the seventh time was a charm for this Melbourne couple and their Sandringham Yacht Club wedding.
Carla and Mauricio’s Melbourne waterfront wedding ended with the most gorgeous sunset over the bay and guests clamouring to get a glimpse of it.
Their Sandringham Yacht Club wedding followed a traditional church ceremony at St Mary’s Ascot Vale on January 16, 2022, which was six postponements in the making.
Carla and Mauricio and their son Alejandro celebrated the uniting of their little family with 100 guests and loved ones. Baby Alejandro helped Dad Mauricio propose at just two weeks old when “Mummy, will you marry Daddy?” was written inside his onesie.
The couple chose Sandringham Yacht Club for its panoramic water views, delicious cuisine, and perhaps above all else, the promise of an idyllic sunset. On their day, the weather gods delivered.
Carla describes their style as classic meets beach , informed by fresh white roses, emerald and greenery accents, and timeless black tuxedos. Photos by Ateia Photography were the perfect mix of candid and posed, “they were so experienced and made us feel so comfortable,” Carla praises.
“After all the postponements due to covid, the seventh time was the charm for us,” says Carla. “Our wedding day was definitely worth the wait.”
Mauricio and I fell in love with the beach views at Sandringham Yacht Club. We also knew that the sunset view on our wedding day would be so romantic and picturesque. We were right! As soon as it was sunset, all our guests were outside admiring it. The service on the day from our event coordinator was brillant. We got so many compliments about venue view, food and drinks. Everything was so perfect! We would’nt change a thing!

“ We recently had our wedding reception at the Sandringham Yacht Club and could not be happier with our choice. From the initial moment we expressed interest through to picking up a few bits and pieces the day following the reception we received nothing but the most personalised, professional and warm attentive service you could imagine. Our wedding planner was incredible and we really felt that we were in safe hands at what can be a very stressful time. No request was too much and on the evening all the staff, from front of house to the kitchen were amazing. We received so many compliments from our guests, the quality of the food, variety of dishes, attentive bar staff and a servicing team that were both efficient and warm. We will always look upon the day with the fondest of memories and the team at Sandringham Yacht Club played a massive part in making it so special . ” – John B.

10 most beautiful places in Karelia (PHOTOS)
1. Petrozavodsk
Fishermen, simbol of Petrozavodsk city, sculpture on Onega embankment, gift from American twin-city Duluth.
The capital and the largest city in Karelia (with just under 300,000 people living there) is famous for having one of the most remarkable waterfronts in Russia. Lake Onega’s embankment is decorated with installations by contemporary artists from all over the world. And the sunsets here are simply unbelievable!
The main street in Petrozavodsk named after Lenin.
Architecture enthusiasts will fall in love with the old Karelian wooden houses in the city center, which is basically an open-air museum.
2. Ruskeala Mountain Park
Kayakers sailing over sunken boulders in Lake Light.
Several years ago, these abandoned marble quarries were turned into a park. Marble was mined here beginning in the 18th century. Ruskeala marble was used in the decoration of St. Isaac's Cathedral and St. Michael's Castle in St. Petersburg, as well as the city’s Primorskaya and Ladozhskaya metro stations.
In the caves of the marble canyon in Ruskeala Mountain Park.
The main attraction at Ruskeala Park is a big canyon filled with blue water. You can also visit underground tunnels.
3. Kivach Falls
Kivach Falls.
This waterfall features prominently in just about every tour of Karelia. It is impossible to miss! Kivach is translated from Finnish as “powerful, impetuous,” which is a very fitting description of this waterfall on the Suna River. At 10.7-meters high, Kivach is the second largest plain waterfall in Europe after Rhine Falls in Switzerland.
4. The Girvas extinct volcano
On an ancient volcano Girvas.
Girvas is not like any volcanoes we are used to. It looks like a rocky forest cut by numerous lakes and dams. But it is actually a volcano, or more precisely a paleo volcano, as scientists would say. It went extinct more than 2 billion years ago and is considered one of the oldest on the planet.
Kizhi island.
Lake Onega has more than 1,300 islands, but Kizhi is especially worth a visit. It is an island museum of wooden architecture and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Medieval buildings were brought here from abandoned villages in northern Russian and restored. The heart of the ensemble is the Kizhi Pogost.
The Church of Transfiguration built 1714 on the Kizhi Island.
It consists of the 37-meter-tall Church of the Transfiguration, which was built in the early 18th century entirely from wood without a single nail. Here you will also find the Church of the Intercession, which has a partially preserved iconostasis and a 19th century bell tower.
6. Valaam Monastery
The bay of the Valaam Monastery and St. Nicholas Skete.
One of the oldest and most famous monasteries in Russia is located in the western part of Karelia on Lake Ladoga. The Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Saviour was founded in the 11th-12th centuries on the secluded Valaam Archipelago, which consists of 50 islands. Some of them are so close to each other that they seem like a single piece of land, while others are more remote and difficult to get to. On many of those islands, you can find secluded dwellings for monks that are called sketes.
The Valaam Monastery.
Pilgrims and tourists come here not just because of the monastery’s religious history, but also to go on scenic walks around the islands.
7. Ladoga Skerries
Summer evening at the Ladoga Lake.
One of the most beautiful national parks in Russia consists of hundreds of islands, canals and bays hidden away in the dense Karelian forests. It is one of the most popular fishing and kayaking destinations for tourists and locals alike.
A local at the Ladoga Lake.
What’s more, seals live here.
8. White Sea Petroglyphs
Petroglyph of a deer.
These carvings on rocks—messages from people who lived in the area 5,000-7,000 years ago—are considered one of the main mysteries of Karelia. They can be found all over the region, but most of all near the city of Belomorsk in the north of the republic. There are more than 2,000 of them here, with new ones being discovered all the time. They depict scenes from the everyday life of the ancient residents, ranging from fishing to domestic scenes. There are even pictures of people on skis!
9. Rabocheostrovsk
The famous view of Rabocheostrovsk.
In the 1920s, this old Karelian village on the shore of the White Sea housed a transit prison for inmates of the Solovki prison camp. What remains of the old buildings today are just their foundations and a ruined pier, although it still serves as a starting point for trips to Solovki.
10. Village of Kinerma
The Karelian village of Kinerma.
This tiny village with a population of just six people is a member of the Association of the Most Beautiful Villages of Russia and is considered one of Karelia's main attractions. Kinerma has preserved the historical appearance of an old Karelian village, with real wooden houses dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries.
Inside a Karelian house.
Local residents have set up an exhibition for tourists that introduces everyday life in a Karelian village. And, of course, all visitors are treated to delicious local pasties, called kalitki.

We wanted to take the chance to say a HUGE thank you for our wedding!! We just cannot thank you, and the team at Sandringham for being so accommodating. You really made the planning and the lead up so easy and so simple. Your communication was incredible, and your organisation skills out of this world. We also cannot explain how MANY comments we got from our guests about how amazing and friendly the staff were on the night and how great the food was. To hear that come from our family and friends just confirmed our decision to get married at SYC was a bloody good one!

I wanted to say a huge thank you for all your help in the wedding planning process and on the day. You made everything so easy – from the initial booking, to how to run the day. It made the whole process so simple for me. Please also pass on my thanks to the staff on that evening. All the wait staff were so fast in their service and ran the night so smoothly. It exceeded our expectations and we couldn’t have asked for anything more! We have received many compliments from guests about the exceptional quality of the food.

On behalf of Lachlan and myself, I just want to send the deepest thank you to yourself and your team for our wedding on Sunday. We had so many compliments that Sandringham was just the perfect venue and the staff were fabulous. And well, the food! Everyone was full, and pleasantly surprised at how good the food was too! It was a pleasure dealing with you and your team and as mentioned the planning was just smooth!
