While the Dufour 48 Catamaran is a new name on the multi-hull scene, it has decades of expertise behind it. Formerly owned by Dufour Yachts, the design and technology teams behind it are up there with the world’s best including world-famous Italian naval architect, Umberto Felci. This design was so special that the rights were purchased by established Italian boat-builders JJL Catamarans, who refined the manufacturing process and improved the design, changing this catamaran from a simple production vessel to a unique work of art. 

Felci was the original designer of the sleek catamaran in 2018, and continues to oversee production of the catamarans since the company was sold to JJL Catamarans in 2020. JJL Catamarans are partnered with Under the Heavens Sailing Cruises in Croatia, who are backed by International conglomerate – the Fozzy Group.

While the name and management might have changed, the prestigious Felci touch is still front and centre of the Dufour 48 Catamaran, as he uses his vast knowledge and experience to give the catamaran a sleek, Italian styling to rival luxury yachts and catamarans around the world. 

The cooperation between exceptional Italian boat-builders JJL Catamarans and the elegance of Umberto Felci’s design creates a catamaran that exudes luxury and performance wherever you look.

The contemporary design of the Dufour 48 Catamaran ensures a combination of style and performance to make for the perfect cruising vessel. The dual hulls have been rigorously tested for their aqua-dynamics for a smooth and efficient cleave through the water. The main mast has been placed towards the stern to allow for larger headsails, and the boom is more angled than most monohulls. The self-tacking jib combined with the mainsail creates a total sail area of over 120m2.

The Dufour 48 Catamaran has a beautiful outdoor living area, designed specifically for comfort and entertaining. The huge flybridge with stair access from both starboard and port sides provides a separate area to relax and lie in the sun. At the back, there is a wide L-shaped sofa, and in front of the helm, you’ll find a double sunbed. The central helm station is compact with winches nearby so that the catamaran can be operated entirely from the flybridge. Visibility around the boat is excellent, Felci’s impeccable design has succeeded to remove unnecessary obstructions which also ensures more space to walk around the boat.

At the back of the boat, there are wide stairs from the water level on to the cockpit and side decks. The spacious layout gives the impression of a bigger catamaran and the cockpit is an extension of the living room – a lounge area to starboard and seating for eight to port. The Dufour 48 Catamaran has three options for dinghy lifting: standard pulleys, electric winch or a hydraulic platform.

At the bow, there are two double sunbeds just in front of the coachroof. Additionally, there are two small trampoline sections just aft of the cross beam.

Every boat owner wants their pride and joy to be unique, so the boatbuilders behind the Dufour 48 Catamaran understand that the boat needs to be the right fit for the owner. That’s why their flexible shipyard ensures customization for many features both internal and external.

In all definitions, this is a truly beautiful catamaran from the new name on the catamaran scene.

The space below deck is unique in her class. The cat Design Team has implemented an inverted saloon layout featuring the galley towards the bow of the boat, ensuring optimal utilisation of the catamarans interior entertaining area.

The Dufour 48 Catamaran has a 360-degree loft-style saloon connected to the cockpit. On the port side, you have a fully equipped galley with lots of storage space at the back, an island in the middle and an adjustable L-shaped sofa in the front. At the starboard front corner, there is an office space that functions as a navigation or work station. A digital navigation screen and autopilot controls make it possible to operate the catamaran from inside the cabin, and the sliding glass doors ensure that you can completely seal the cabin, as well as enjoy plenty of natural light and fresh air. All aspects of the interior have been designed with both luxury and practicality in mind, making it an incredible escape for guests on board.

In terms of sleeping, this extraordinary catamaran sleeps up to 12 overnight guests. You can choose between three to five cabins and up to five heads in the layout options. The starboard hull has two cabins and heads as well as a day head and service room. It’s also possible to transform it into a single bunk cabin when purchasing. The cabins each have their own entrances that ensure privacy for crew and guests onboard. The port hull can either have an owner’s cabin and a possible crew cabin or two double cabins mirrored to the starboard hull depending on the layout purchased. All the cabins have windows and hatches that allow natural light and airflow at all times.

Synergy Yacht Sales and JJL Catamarans announce a strategic alliance for the product and market development of the exciting Dufour 48 catamaran.

JJL Catamarans, Forli (Italy) based shipyard producing Dufour Catamarans has recently been sold to Under the Heavens company from Croatia. Both companies are financially backed by Fozzy Group, one of the largest trade industrial groups in Ukraine securing financial stability and substantial investment in the expansion of the production and development of new models.

Dufour Catamarans’ recent change in ownership and management has created an opportunity for Synergy Yacht Sales, a successful and well-respected Athens-based yacht sales, brokerage and marketing company, to create this alliance. The agreement covers not only product and market development for the Greek , Cypriot and US markets, but also creates a platform for new investors to participate more fully in the factory-to-yacht ownership vertical.

The combined expertise of Dufour and Synergy in the catamaran design, construction and charter space will provide clients a peerless combination of market insights, supply/demand and financial analysis, but uniquely allow professional buyers to be able to modify their own catamaran design, tailored to specific market segments and their own needs. The goal is to design affordable and practical catamarans that are well positioned in the charter market to address the increasingly discerning, mid-market client. We know that buyers are much clearer as to their own requirements on the vessels they charter, so it is important that the charter space moves to address these expectations.  This differentiation should provide increased charter revenue and higher margins for the investment buyer.

Croatian Charter Company Purchased the Company JLL Catamarans Srl from Dufour

The Croatian company UNDER HEAVEN purchased the Italian manufacturer JJL Catamarans Srl based in Forli from the French company Dufour Yachts. The negotiations began in November 2019 and were concluded on July 31st 2020. The amount of the deal was not disclosed.

JJL Catamarans Srl is the only Italian shipyard involved in the serial production of large sailing catamarans. The company was founded in 2017 by DUFOUR YACHTS and began with the production of the Dufour 48. This catamaran was designed by FELCI YACHT DESIGN in line with the DUFOUR design philosophy and quickly gained popularity, especially in the Mediterranean charter market. As a part of the agreement between DUFOUR YACHTS and UNDER HEAVEN, the company will continue to produce catamarans under the Dufour brand. The new owner has ambitious plans to continue development of the shipyard by expanding the production, developing a new range of models, and reinforcing its presence on the market.

Under Heaven plans to display the Dufour 48 at the Biograd Boat Show from October 21st to 25th, 2020.

The hulls are narrow — like most catamarans — and are built to reduce the amount of water that flows on the deck. It also reduces the amount of sea spray along the sides.

However, there is a downside to the layout of the boat. The helms are much more exposed than other catamarans, which could be a potential safety hazard.

Privilege 435

The Privilege 435 is a catamaran designed to go long distances. It uses a heavy displacement so that the ship glides through the water with ease. The vessel is also built with a low-slung structure to help prevent winds. 

A slight drawback could be the heat buildup caused by the sun seeping in through the windows, as there aren’t any outside shades or ways to block the sun except for the internal shades. The other downside to this catamaran is that the Privilege’s bridge deck has low clearance . Other than that, the ship is an excellent option for those looking for a well-built cat.

Nautitech 441

The Nautitech 441 is another impressive catamaran to consider. The interior is slightly smaller than some others we have gone over, but don’t let that fool you. This boat is full of great features to make your trip comfortable and successful.

For example, the Nautitech 441 is equipped with a rain gutter situated around the entire coachroof. This gives you the option to collect the water for your freshwater tanks, or you can simply let it drain off the boat through the Y-shaped valve.

It’s a fast little boat that can use either the sails or fuel to reach 9 knots in moderate conditions. That’s not bad if you’re looking for a comfortable, decent-sized cruising ship with a bit of a kick.

The ICE Cat 61 is a catamaran designed and developed in Italy. The ship uses a carbon mast and is very easy to use.

Walking around on the boat is easy enough, but the cockpit setup and helm are situated awkwardly, so it requires a bit of walk around to use all of the ship’s controls. 

The Voyage 44 is a performance cruising catamaran that is well-built for a bargain price. It’s something that you just can’t beat when looking for a new yacht because this ship has everything you could ask for.

It’s designed with day cruising in mind, but that won’t limit it to short distances. What’s also great about this boat is the amount of seating it offers, fitting 32 people comfortably. The ship is functional, and the layout is designed to make traveling onboard the vessel as simple and straightforward as possible.

Atlantic 42

The Atlantic 42 is a fan favorite. This loyal following stems from the Atlantic’s look and effectiveness, and consumers seem to love how easy this ship is to sail and how capable it is for deep ocean sailing.

The size of the Atlantic 42 is something fans of this catamaran love. It might look small from the outside, but the inside layout is well done and feels spacious. The cockpit location in front of the mainmast takes advantage of the rest of the ship’s structure, making it a more flexible design than some other catamarans available.

Outremer 45

The Outremer 45 is designed a bit differently from other catamarans because the hulls are narrower than usual. This helps make the Outremer 45 a fast ship, but it’s done for safety reasons as well. The Bahia 46 is on the bigger side by catamaran standards. It’s designed by the brand Fountaine Pajot, which has been building catamarans for years. In fact, Fountaine Pajot is one of the leading brands in cruising catamarans.

The foam core’s overall design, the high bridge deck clearance , and the low center of gravity make this ship an excellent option for deep ocean sailing. It will hold its own on rough waters as well, and there’s also plenty of space for entertaining on the inside of the ship. 

The Prout 45 is an excellent catamaran to consider if you plan to sail with a limited crew. The positioning of the mainsail and the mast make it simple to use and easy to reach. Also, the mainsail itself is smaller than other ships and easy to handle.

The interior isn’t like some of the newer models. In new catamarans, the concept is more open and free-flowing between inside and outside. In the Prout 45, things are more traditional but still comfortable. Don’t worry; you still have plenty of room to entertain and plot your voyage.

The Marsaudon TS5 is one of the fastest catamarans available. It’s designed with panoramic views from the interior, and the ship speeds up quickly due to its lightweight design and shape.

The ship can be challenging to maneuver, which makes it better suited for experienced sailors. While the interior still has plenty of luxuries, it can be considered bare. The designers want to keep the ship light to increase its speed, meaning some comforts have been sacrificed, such as space in the living quarters.

Unlimited C53

The Unlimited C53 is a fast racing catamaran with all the comforts of a cruising ship. The design uses a new technique of connecting the two hulls at 1.3m above the waterline. This is unheard of in most catamarans, and this feature minimizes how the ship handles rougher seas.

The ship uses all of the necessary tanks and equipment to keep the boat balanced on the water. Perfect weight displacement throughout the vessel makes it ideal for racing and long-distance sailing. The interior is also spacious and provides all of the comforts you could need.

A Unique Form of Boat Share

The boat share program for the Cervetti 44 Catamaran is slightly different to our other syndicate offers , being only five 20% shares . What’s more, during winter 2025 with agreement from the owners, the catamaran can be sailed to the Whitsundays by Sydney by Sail staff for June through to October, allowing up to four weeks cruising in tropical waters for each owner.

The new 44 (now known as the Cervetti 44) features the inverted bows of its predecessor, with a greater angle and, above all, more width. The composite bowsprit is also retained. The nacelle, on the other hand, is proportionally larger. Inverted glazing should prove highly effective in keeping the interior cool. The flybridge design features an XXL sunbathing area and a central helm station, though there looks to be little in the way of protection up there. Advantages: the silhouette is more elegant and windage higher up is slightly reduced. In terms of performance, the upwind sail area/displacement ratio is 8.48 m²/t, which, in theory, suggests a placid temperament. But the powerful 1,075-square foot (100 m²) gennaker will certainly add some welcome horsepower! A world preview is scheduled for the Cannes Yachting Festival.
