Amazon founder Jeff Bezos' massive yacht has officially dropped anchor in Port Everglades.

Video captured by NBC6 shows the enormous 417-foot yacht docked in Port Everglades Tuesday weeks after the billionaire announced he was moving back to the Sunshine State, after spending nearly three decades in Seattle.

According to Boat International , the Koru is the world’s largest sailing yacht, and reportedly cost an estimated $500 million to build.

Bezos stepped down as the CEO of Amazon almost three years ago and said in a social media post that operations for his rocket company, Blue Origin, are “increasingly shifting” to Cape Canaveral, which is about 200 miles north of Miami.

Coincidentally, on Tuesday, an Amazon spokesperson confirmed to NBC6 that the company is searching for 50,000 square feet of leased office space in the Miami area as part of its organic growth over the past few years in the region.

Amazon currently has more than 400 corporate and tech employees assigned to our existing serviced office locations in the Miami area, but this office space would first base location in the city.

In October, Bloomberg News reported that Bezos had purchased a mansion in the area known as “Billionaire Bunker” for $79 million, after buying a neighboring estate for $68 million.

Amazon founder, space enthusiast , and the third wealthiest man in the world Jeff Bezos has a parking problem with his mega-yacht .

At a Florida marina this week it became apparent that the $500m ship was too big to be moored with the other private yachts at Port Everglades.

At an impressive 417ft in length, “Koru” — the Maori word meaning new life or regeneration — had to be moored alongside oil tankers, container ships and the Liberty of the Seas cruise ship.

Port Everglades is a major gateway for Caribbean cruises and international trade, but the yacht section cannot accommodate vessels larger than 400ft.

At just over that length (almost twice the length of an Airbus A380 or equivalent to four blue whales) other accommodations had to be made.

A spokesperson for the port told The Times that it was in an area for energy ships and that when such large yachts come into port, they are docked wherever there is space.

Koru came into port last week from Gibraltar and with three masts is the second-largest sailing vessel in the world after Sailing Yacht A, owned by Russian fertiliser billionaire Andrey Melnichenko and designed by Philippe Starck.

Jeff Bezos's yacht named Koru is seen docked at Port Everglades

While it is pipped in length, it is nevertheless the tallest sailing yacht in the world with its masts reaching 230ft into the air.

Despite its enormous size — or perhaps because of it — Koru has a support vessel, the Arbeona, on which Bezos keeps his helicopter, jet skis, and luxury cars. That 246ft boat is docked four miles away at Dania Beach.

It costs an estimated $25m per year to staff and operate Koru, which has three decks and a pool. The Amazon founder proposed to fiancée Lauren Sanchez onboard over the summer after five years of dating.

Jeff Bezos takes a photo of Lauren Sanchez on his yacht in Portofino, Italy

During an interview with Vogue , Sanchez was asked about her apparent resemblance to the figurehead of the yacht — depicting a woman carved in the style of a Roman goddess with long hair and a flowing gown — after press suggested that it was a carving of her. However, according to Sanchez, that speculation is not true.

“I’m very flattered, but it’s not,” she said, before adding that the figurehead was one of Bezos’ favourite mythological figures, Freyja, the goddess associated with love, sex, war and gold.

She also poked fun at what the statue would look like “if it was” her, as she jokingly made the gesture of having larger breasts.

Bezos and Sanchez recently announced they are relocating from Seattle to Miami to be nearer his mother and adoptive father who are both in their late 70s.

The billionaire has bought two neighbouring properties on Indian Creek Island alongside Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, Tom Brady, and Norman Braman, who owns the Philadelphia Eagles.

Jeff Bezos’ 417-Foot Yacht Drops Anchor in South Florida amid Move to Miami

The Amazon founder announced his move earlier this month

Jeff Bezos has brought his 417-foot-long yacht to Florida!

The Amazon founder's $500-million dollar vessel named Koru dropped anchor in Port Everglades, reports WPLG . Its massive size made it have to be parked next to an oil tanker and alongside other large cargo carriers, per Gizmodo .

Koru is the largest sailing yacht in the world and features a trio of masts and several decks, according to Boat International .

It was first spotted at sea earlier this year . Its arrival on the southeastern coast comes nearly a month after the entrepreneur, 59, announced that he was relocating to Miami from Seattle. Bezos announced his move in an Instagram post published on Nov. 2.

"I've lived in Seattle longer than I've lived anywhere else and have so many amazing memories here. As exciting as the move is, it's an emotional decision for me. Seattle, you will always have a piece of my heart," he shared in the caption.

The post included a clip of Bezos giving a tour of Amazon's first office, which was filmed by his father. He wrote in the post that his parents, along with his fiancée Lauren Sánchez , inspired his move.

"My parents [ Miguel and Jacklyn ] have always been my biggest supporters," Bezos wrote. "They recently moved back to Miami, the place we lived when I was younger (Miami Palmetto High class of '82 — GO Panthers!) I want to be close to my parents, and Lauren and I love Miami."

Bezos and Sánchez, 53, took their relationship public  in January 2019. PEOPLE confirmed that the two are engaged in May. The news came after the two were seen traveling on the yacht during a romantic European getaway .

Apart from having a  wooden sculpture resembling Sánchez , the boat became the couple's preferred method of transportation during their summer travels, including stops in Saint-Tropez and multiple parts of Italy . The yacht was also the location of the couple's engagement party in August.

The best pictures of Koru

In 2022, the 125.8-metre sailing yacht Koru made history when she hit the water at Oceanco ’s Alblasserdam facilities. Now successfully delivered, she is the flagship of the Oceanco fleet and the largest Dutch-built yacht in the world.

BOAT rounds up the best pictures of the three-masted sailing yacht owned by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos...

Koru unable to dock in Florida

Koru arrived at Port Everglades, Florida in November 2023 following a months-long Mediterranean cruise that included stopovers in Dubrovnik, Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer and Calabria (according to BOATPro ). The sailing yacht was too large to anchor in the nearby marina, which has a maximum capacity of 121.9 metres. She was photographed instead docking next to a 297-metre cruise ship named Rhapsody of the Seas .

Koru's helicopter landing

Last summer, Koru was spotted in the French Riveria alongside her 75-metre support vessel Abeona . Delivered by Damen Yachting two months before the mothership, Abeona is equipped with a helipad and hangar for a D14 value helicopter– which is clearly being put to good use. Accommodation is for up to 45 people onboard Bezos' support vessel, including crew, guests and other specialist staff.

Koru in Portofino

Koru and Abeona also travelled to Portofino in the summer of 2023, with both Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez sighted enjoying lunch and taking photographs while on board.

Koru's figurehead

Throughout construction, it was difficult to get a glimpse of the details on board Koru ; but once handed over, all of her traditional features could be admired up close. As well as the intricate gold paintwork and scarlet bootstripe, the yacht also features an elaborate figurehead made of polished wood. The woman is wearing a necklace with a symbol in the pendant, which some have speculated could be the Māori symbol meaning "koru".

Koru in front of Palma Cathedral

After delivery, the schooner spent some time enjoying the waters of Mallorca. The Balearic hotspot is a magnet for superyachts during the Mediterranean season, but Koru had the quiet anchorage largely to herself after leaving the Oceanco shipyard. Her classic lines could be appreciated in all of their glory against the backdrop of Palma Cathedral.

Koru delivered to Mallorca

In April 2023. Koru was delivered and undertook her maiden voyage from the Netherlands to Gibraltar. She then headed onwards to Palma, giving the world a first glimpse of her cascading aft decks, mighty masts and elaborate aft deck pool arrangement. She was flying solo in Mallorca, but was later joined by support vessel Abeona .

Koru in Gibraltar

Following her successful sea trials in Rotterdam, Koru embarked on journey to Palma, Mallorca that involved an overnight anchorage in Gibraltar. The sailing yacht was sighted passing through the Strait of Gibraltar a second time on her cross-continental journey from the Mediterranean to the USA in November 2023.

Koru on sea trials

Koru was spotted departing from Rotterdam in the early morning light of February 13 to begin sea trials. The 125.8-metre Oceanco set sail across the North Sea to put her performance to the test after hitting the water for the first time in August 2022. The traditional three-masted schooner yacht has a midnight blue hull, traditional canoe stern and the unique addition of a chair at the very tip of the bowsprit. Her name represents the idea of life’s perpetual movement and is a Māori word closely related to that of an unfurling leaf.

Koru with her masts stepped

The yacht was seen for the first time in her final form on the dock in the Port of Rotterdam. Her trio of masts was stepped here to avoid having to dismantle any bridges to allow the Oceanco giant yacht to pass under. The maximum height of the bridge is 70 metres; the masts on Koru are thought to measure between 65 and 85 metres. The first images of Koru indicate the yacht will have plenty of features for her owner to enjoy, including an aft deck pool and a large, uncluttered sundeck.

Koru launched

The 125.8-metre yacht was moved from Oceanco’s primary facilities at the crack of dawn to enter the final stages of construction. The hull was transported via Dordrecht and Spijkenisse (Oude Maas), and her masts were transported separately via the slightly shorter Rotterdam Centre (Nieuwe Maas).

Koru moves through the Dutch canals

Before she hit the water, the hull of Koru was loaded onto a transport vessel and she made the journey through the Dutch canals for further construction work. The yacht was captured against the backdrop of the quaint Dutch countryside, revealing her classic-looking lines and long rows of windows.

Koru from a bird's eye view

As she was wheeled out of the shed into the light of day, yacht-spotters were able to get their first proper aerial shot of the yacht, without her masts.

Koru rolls out of the shed

When Oceanco completed the work on the hull, the yacht was rolled out of the shed to reveal a crisp navy hull and white superstructure. Koru ’s exterior design immediately drew a comparison to Lürssen’s 93-metre sailing yacht Eos , which was designed by US-based Langan Design . This was the world’s first sighting of the already iconic superyacht.

Oceanco Yacht

Synonymous with entrepreneurial success, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has channeled his passion for ocean exploration through an impressive fleet of luxury marine vessels, including superyachts and megayachts. These magnificent marine builds represent Bezos’ deep-seated fascination with the mysteries of the ocean. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, his yachts serve as a gateway to maritime adventures, allowing him to traverse the globe’s waters in remarkable comfort and style. Jeff Bezos is making headlines in the luxury yacht world as his vessel, Koru by Oceanco, finished its long-awaited journey around the world and made its appearance in Fort Lauderdale at a South Florida seaport.

Measuring an astonishing 410 feet in length, the modern sailing yacht stands out as the largest in the world. Its sheer size is so enormous that the original plans to dock Koru at the Port of Everglades were redirected to Fort Lauderdale where it would stay parked next to gigantic oil tankers. The exterior showcases an exterior design in collaboration between Oceanco and Dykstra Naval Architects, perfectly blending mondern and traditional yacht building.

Inside, the interior highlights a contemporary style with natural wood tones complemented by a palette of warm neutrals, courtesy of Mlinaric, Henry and Zervudachi Interior Design and Decoration. The three-masted sailing yacht offers ample deck space to provide a variety of breathtaking views, three jacuzzis, and a swimming pool. Jeff Bezos’ New Yacht Is Finally Ready to Set Sail

Amazon’s founder has been spotted on Koru, a massive schooner with a design that evokes the golden age of sailing in the early 20th century.

Koru, a very large sailboat with three masts and a dark navy hull, sails on a calm blue sea.

By Kevin Koenig

Just in time for the high season of yachting in the Mediterranean, when multimillion-dollar megayachts descend on ports like Monte Carlo and St. Tropez, Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, has been photographed with his partner Lauren Sánchez on his new boat, Koru, off the coast of Spain.

Mr. Bezos’ vessel is a sailing yacht, a departure from the diesel-powered, floating palaces popular with other billionaires. But it is still massive. At 417 feet, Koru is the world’s largest sailing yacht, according to Boat International , and it cost an estimated $500 million to build, Bloomberg reported . (Parsifal III, the boat featured on Bravo’s reality series “Below Deck Sailing Yacht,” is 177 feet long — less than half the length of Koru — and cost $18 million , according to the website SuperYachtFan.)

A spokesperson for Mr. Bezos did not comment for this article; neither did Oceanco, Koru’s builder. Here is what to know about the boat.

For traditionalists, Koru is refreshing. At a time when yacht design skews outrageous — see the lizardlike, 262-foot Artefact or the otherworldly 463-foot Yas — Koru stands out as a schooner, a sailing vessel with two or more masts. Photos reveal a large sailboat with three masts, an on-deck pool and a voluptuous mermaid on the bow, that bears a resemblance to Ms. Sánchez. But otherwise, the sleek, classic lines suggest the patrician age of yachting in the early 20th century, said Robert B. MacKay, author of “The Golden Age of Newport Yachting: Between the Wars.”

“With the clipper bow and the dark hull and the masts,” Mr. MacKay said, referring to Koru’s concave, pointy forward section, “it reminds me of a boat built in 1930 for J.P. Morgan Jr., Corsair IV. It is almost like a reincarnation. It’s certainly at odds with the stuff the oligarchs are building — those look like bloated Clorox bottles.”

Compared with the world’s very largest motor yachts — built for sheer size and the accompanying bragging rights — Koru could almost be considered quaint. Azzam, one of the world’s largest motor yachts, is nearly 200 feet longer.

The Experience

Koru will be propelled primarily by the wind. “Sailboats are usually greener than most powerboats,” said Don Anderson, a former captain of M5 , the world’s largest single-masted sailboat, at 256 feet. “I’d like to think that Koru will be one of the most ecological yachts out there, with its sails and also with the technology that will be aboard.”

“When you’re on a sailboat, you’re more in touch with the wind and the waves than on a powerboat,” he continued. “You’re more susceptible to the elements, too. But you can leave California, and once you get past the Catalinas you can basically surf downwind all the way to Hawaii. All you need to do is run with the waves.”

Mr. Bezos has been a guest on similar boats, according to Bloomberg: In 2019, he was spotted on Eos , a 305-foot sailing yacht owned by Barry Diller and Diane von Furstenberg.

Bill Tripp, a Connecticut-based naval architect, said the appeal of this type of boat is clear: “When you are on a powerboat, you ask, ‘Are we there yet?’ and on a sailboat, you’re enjoying the ride and the ocean so much that you don’t ask that question.”

Koru will be trailed by Abeona, a 246-foot support vessel. Superyachts often have support vessels following along behind them. These “shadows,” as they are colloquially known, are for the “toys” — the ATVs, supercars, seaplanes, motorcycles, smaller boats, scuba gear, personal submarines and even helicopters that pleasure boaters might bring on a trip. According to its builder, this model of boat can carry these gadgets along with dozens of crew members. (Ms. Sanchez flies helicopters, and the couple was recently photographed taking a helicopter to board Abeona and then Koru.)

Abeona, a motor yacht, will have enough range to follow Koru from the Mediterranean to the Caribbean — a common course for yachts — on a single tank of gas.

The Kerfuffle

Koru set off a controversy last year — before it was even completed — in a face-off with the Dutch city of Rotterdam. The boat was built at Oceanco’s facility in Alblasserdam, the Netherlands, and needed to pass the historic Koningshaven Bridge, known as “De Hef,” in Rotterdam, to undergo testing in the North Sea.

When the city announced it would dismantle the bridge to allow the boat and its mainmast — an estimated 230 feet tall — to pass through unscathed, locals were angry. They planned a protest to throw eggs at the yacht as it cruised by. In the end, the bridge was not taken apart, and the yacht was towed to a different location to have its masts attached.

Koru is Maori for “coil” or “loop” and refers to the unfurling of a fern frond. The koru design is common in traditional Maori art, where it symbolizes new life, growth and peace. Mr. Bezos included a photo of a koru frond in an Instagram post on Jan. 1, 2022.

Brad Stone, who was the first to report on Koru, in his 2021 book “Amazon Unbound: Jeff Bezos and the Invention of a Global Empire,” said the name was “consistent with where we see him today.”

“He is no longer this single-minded tech guy,” Mr. Stone said. “He’s in media and Hollywood and has a new relationship.”

PORT EVERGLADES, Fla. – The behemoth boat owned by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has dropped anchor in South Florida.

The half-billion-dollar vessel named Koru has arrived at Port Everglades.

The 417-foot boat is the world’s largest sailing yacht.

Bezos recently revealed he is relocating to Miami after nearly three decades in Seattle.

According to an Instagram post, Bezos, 59, said he wants to be close to his parents who recently moved back to Miami.

He also says the move makes sense because of Blue Origin’s operations in Cape Canaveral. NASA recently granted to rocket company a $3.4 billion contract to lead a team to develop a lunar lander named Blue Moon. It will be used to transport astronauts to the lunar surface as early as 2029.

Earlier this summer, Bezos purchased a home in Indian Creek Village in August . The exclusive area in Miami is known as “Billionaire Bunker” where he will be neighbors with celebrities including Tom Brady, Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner.

Bezos paid $68 million for the three-bedroom, waterfront home, which sits on 2.8 acres (1.1 hectares), Fortune magazine and Bloomberg reported.

The Amazon founder stepped down as CEO in 2021 to devote more time to philanthropy and other projects .

Bezos graduated from Palmetto Senior High in 1982.

Jeff Bezos' Superyacht Is So Massive It Had To Be Docked Next To Oil Tankers In Florida

Jeff Bezos is insanely rich. So much so that his superyacht is bigger than other rich people’s superyachts, which is pretty wild if you think about it. Bezos’ recently completed ship, the Koru, is currently docked down in Florida where its massive size made it a bit difficult to dock.

Luxury Launches reported that the Koru, which is currently the biggest sailing ship in the world, recently completed its months long journey from the Mediterranean all the way to Port Everglades in South Florida. Any other billionaire’s boat wouldn’t have any trouble docking at the port, which can accommodate yachts in size up to 400 feet. The 416-foot Koru dwarfs that in nearly every dimension.

The half-a-billion-dollar boat is nearly twice the length of an Airbus A380 with an internal volume of 3,300 GT. Moreover, its triple masts measuring 230 feet make the vessel nearly half the size of the Great Pyramid of Giza.

Related Content

The Koru is so big that it had to be docked near two 600-plus-foot oil tankers. Equally huge are the docking fees and the cost to keep this thing running. Using another superyacht as an example, Luxury Launches says that current docking rates at Port Everglades can run $22,000 for just 10 days. That’s in addition to the daily upkeep costs  of $137,000 for the Koru, which should be chump change for Bezos.

Don’t forget about the Koru’s $75 million support yacht , Abeona, that follows the Koru just so Bezos’ fiancé Lauren Sanchez can land her helicopter on it. Abeona won’t be joining the Koru in Florida, however. The smaller yacht is headed to the Bahamas where it’s expected the Koru will meet up with it soon.

An inside look at jeff bezos’ $500 million superyacht and what it costs to keep it afloat.

Cliché but true, the second-richest man on the planet, according to Forbes , owns the tallest sailing yacht in the world . In fact, the 417-foot Koru is so big, it has its own 250-foot support vessel .

Priced at $500 million, the Koru hit the sea for the first time in 2023 and has since ferried Jeff Bezos and company around the globe. Complete with three massive 229-foot masts, it can reach a top speed under sail of 20 knots, according to the New York Post — which is approximately 23 miles per hour.

Made for a group, up to 18 guests can set sail on the yacht, allowing Bezos to bring family and friends on vacation with him. Here’s a look at the Koru’s extravagant features and how much it costs to operate his floating mansion.

Also take a look at Bezos’ mansion collection.

Key Features

As expected Bezos’ yacht is dripping with luxury. With a net worth of $203.8 billion — as of May 4, 2024, according to Forbes — he can afford to outfit the Koru with nothing but the best and he did just that.

The superyacht has three outdoor decks, with two containing swimming pools, according to the New York Post. It also features a cinema, several lounges and multiple business areas, according to Luxuo .

Highly personalized, the yacht is complete with a figurehead modeled after Bezos’ fiancée Lauren Sanchez. Even its masts are luxurious, as the Amazon founder chose in-boom furlers, which keep the canvases at the bottom of the mast above the deck, creating a pristine and spacious rope-free deck.

For You: Make Yourself Money Smart: 20 ChatGPT Prompts To Increase Your Wealth

Support Vessel

One of the most shocking features of the Koru is the fact that it requires its own support vessel. The $75 million Abeona features a helipad that Sanchez has been spotted using to park her personal helicopter, according to the New York Post.

Designed to carry extra gear, four jet skis, two fast launches and a dinghy were spotted on the Abeona during a 2023 trip to Mallorca, Spain, according to the New York Post. It’s also capable of lifting a small submarine, but Bezos isn’t believed to own one — at least not yet.

Additionally, the support ship has two extra staterooms, which can accommodate four guests. This could come in handy if Bezos wants to entertain a larger group than can fit on the Koru.

On-Board Crew

It probably isn’t a surprise that operating both the Koru and the Abeona is no small task. From staff to drive the boats and maintain them to caring for guests onboard, Bezos needs a small army at sea.

The Koru has a crew of up to 36 people, according to The New York Post. If you think that’s a lot, the Abeona requires up to 45 crew and support staff.

Annual Operating Costs

Purchasing the Koru and Abeona cost Bezos more than half a billion dollars, but his expenses didn’t end there. As you might imagine, the annual cost to maintain a superyacht and its own enormous supporting yacht is more than most people earn in a lifetime.

The Koru costs approximately $25 million in operating expenses per year, according to the Daily Mail . Much less, but still sky-high, Bezos spends around $5 to $10 million on annual maintenance costs for the Abeona, according to Super Yacht Fan ).

When their owners are on dry land, yachts have to find a parking space. However, even this doesn’t always come cheap for Bezos and the Koru.

In November 2023, the billionaire’s yacht arrived in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, but was too big to fit in the port with all the outer superyachts, according to the Daily Mail. Therefore, it had to be docked with cruise ships at Port Everglades, at a rate of $16,500 per week.

While one week of storage might be more than the average person can afford, picking up the tab for any number of weeks would clearly be no issue for Bezos. While his superyacht and the many expenses surrounding it are clearly astronomical, he’s still living well within his budget.

Jeff Bezos Yacht Koru, The Largest Sailing Yacht

Jeff Bezos' World's Largest Sailing Yacht: Koru

Jeff Bezos Yacht Koru A Controversial Start and a Symbolic Name

Jeff Bezos, the billionaire behind Amazon, is set to become the owner of the world's largest sailing vessel, S/Y Koru. The yacht, which measures 417 feet long, is currently undergoing open-seas testing before being delivered to its owner. The vessel has had a controversial start to its life, with a petition to dismantle a historic bridge in Rotterdam causing anger among the Dutch people. However, the boat was eventually moved to a different shipyard, and now it is almost ready to sail. In this editorial, we will look at S/Y Koru's design, its controversial start, and what the future holds for this massive sailing yacht.

The Largest Sailing Vessel in the World

Once S/Y Koru is delivered to Jeff Bezos, it will become the largest sailing vessel in the world. The yacht's sheer size is impressive, but its sailing capabilities are just as noteworthy. S/Y Koru has a hybrid propulsion system, which allows it to sail using wind power or a diesel engine. Crafted from cutting-edge materials, the yacht's sails are built to endure various weather conditions while delivering peak performance.

S/Y Koru's massive size and advanced technology come with a hefty price tag. It's been reported that constructing the yacht amounted to roughly $500 million, positioning it as one of the priciest vessels in existence. However, for Jeff Bezos, this is a drop in the bucket. The billionaire has a net worth of over $100 billion, making him one of the richest people in the world.

Symbolism and Design

The Jeff Bezos' Yacht Koru, which is not just a massive sailing yacht, but also a symbol of perpetual movement and the cycle of life, has a name inspired by the Māori symbol of the same name. The koru symbolizes the spiral of an unfurling fern frond and embodies the concept of how life both changes and remains constant, according to the New Zealand government's definition. Representing perpetual motion, the Koru's circular form with its inward coil signifies a return to the starting point.

The yacht's design is just as impressive as its symbolism. S/Y Koru was built by Oceanco, a Dutch yacht builder known for its high-end luxury vessels. The yacht has a sleek, modern design, with clean lines and a metallic grey finish. It features three masts and can accommodate up to 36 guests and 56 crew members. The yacht's interior is just as impressive, with a spa, gym, and even a climbing wall.

The Koru is not just a yacht; it's a statement. Its sheer size, advanced technology, and sleek design make it a testament to human innovation and engineering. It's the largest sailing vessel in the world, and it's a marvel to behold.

A Controversial Start

S/Y Koru's development process was not without controversy. In 2017, Oceanco petitioned the Rotterdam government to dismantle the Koningshavenbrug bridge so that the yacht could be moved to open water. The bridge, known locally as De Hef, is a symbol of local resistance against the invading forces during World War II. It was heavily damaged by Nazi shelling but managed to survive, becoming a testament to the city's resilience.

The Rotterdam city council refused the petition, causing anger among the Dutch people. Nearly 3,000 people signed up for a protest that involved throwing eggs at the yacht as it passed through town. However, the boat was eventually moved to a different shipyard without its masts early in the morning, avoiding any further controversy.

Top reasons why the Koru is a unique and impressive vessel:

Symbolic Design: The circular shape of the Koru represents perpetual motion, with its inward coil symbolizing a return to the starting point.

Cutting-Edge Materials: The yacht's sails are made from high-tech materials, designed to endure various weather conditions while delivering peak performance.

Advanced Technology: The Koru has a hybrid propulsion system, which allows it to sail using wind power or a diesel engine.

Impressive Size: Once delivered to Jeff Bezos, the Koru will become the largest sailing vessel in the world.

Luxurious Interior: The yacht can accommodate up to 36 guests and 56 crew members, with a spa, gym, and even a climbing wall.

Controversial Start: The yacht's development process was not without controversy, with a petition to dismantle a historic bridge in Rotterdam causing anger among the Dutch people.

Statement Piece: The Koru is not just a yacht; it's a statement. Its sheer size, advanced technology, and sleek design make it a testament to human innovation and engineering.

Jeff Bezos Yacht Koru is an impressive vessel, both in its size and design. The yacht's symbolism and modern features make it a unique addition to the luxury sailing world. While it may have had a controversial start, S/Y Koru is now ready to sail the open seas and embark on new adventures. Only time will tell what Jeff Bezos has planned for this magnificent yacht, but one thing is for sure - it will undoubtedly turn heads and be the envy of seafarers worldwide. S/Y Koru's advanced technology, sleek design, and exceptional performance make it a stunning feat of engineering and a true masterpiece on the water.

Jeff Bezos' Superyacht 'Koru' Arrives in U.S.

Koru superyacht

The superyacht Koru , a gargantuan technological and nautical achievement courtesy of Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos , has sailed into the U.S.

The epic sailing yacht is 417-feet long (127 m) and features three carbon fiber masts that are a staggering 230 feet (70 m) high.

The ship has been under intense scrutiny since its inception, both because of its famous owner, but also because of its size and engineering capability. Koru is so large, in fact, that its builder Oceanco had to sneak the ship out of Rotterdam at night, without its masts attached, in order to both avoid media attention and fit it under the famous Koningshaven Bridge. The bridge, an invaluable WWII landmark known as 'De Hef,' was set to be dismantled to allow Koru to pass through (with its masts attached) before a public outcry derailed the original plans.

After Bezos finally took delivery of the $500 million megayacht in April, it has remained hidden in the Mediterranean. It was last spotted a few weeks ago off the coast of Gibraltar before seemingly making its way across the Atlantic. On Tuesday, Koru arrived at port in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, marking the first time the boat has been stateside and the first time the public has seen her up close.

Due to her size, the boat is being kept alongside cruise ships and tankers at the commercial sea port rather than among the private superyachts that typically dot the Florida coastline. For the time being, it's resting alongside the Liberty of the Seas cruise ship -- one of the few vessels that can make Koru look small with its own 1112-foot length.

Not only does Koru carry a massive 417-foot hull length, it also has a whopping 56-foot (17 m) beam and a 14-foot (4.2 m) draught, making it extremely unlikely to ever access a non-commercial sea port.

jeff bezos yacht in florida

The other shocking detail surrounding Koru is the magnitude of her 'support vessel,' the Abeona . Both vessels travel together, with the Abeona serving as the complementary vessel for crew accommodations and for transporting Bezos' various water toys. Abeona is 246-feet (75 m) long and is currently docked a few miles away in nearby Dania Beach.

Bezos and his fiancé Lauren Sanchez have been spotted cruising the Mediterranean in recent months, although understandably they've been trying to avoid detection by switching off the AIS tracker on Koru . With no AIS signal, the vessel can avoid having its GPS coordinates broadcast publicly.

Residents of Florida may start seeing Koru more often as Bezos recently confirmed he's purchased property in the Miami area near his parents. Bezos' space company Blue Origin also recently opened a launch facility at Cape Canaveral and a rocket assembly facility in Brevard County -- both in central Florida on the eastern coast.

“They recently moved back to Miami, the place we lived when I was younger,” Bezos recently said on Instagram. “I want to be close to my parents.”

As for Koru , it appears she's all set for retirement life with Bezos and family in sunny Florida. With Abeona following closely behind, there will be no shortage of amenities to pass the time.

You can see Koru arriving at port in the video below:

The 2023 superyacht summer recap: Jeff Bezos is now king of the high seas

  • For billionaires and their celebrity friends, warm weather means it's yacht season.
  • Jeff Bezos recently debuted his $500 million megayacht Koru, which criss-crossed the Mediterranean.
  • Here's a recap of some superyachts that made headlines this summer — and the famous faces spotted on them.

Insider Today

Jeff Bezos made headlines in 2019 for a rare appearance partying at sea on David Geffen's yacht, the Rising Sun , with ex-Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein and model Karlie Kloss.

Four years later, Bezos is no longer Amazon's CEO, and he's spent the last few months earning a new title: king of the high seas. As 2023's yacht season comes to a close, it's clear that Bezos' brand new $500 million superyacht won the summer.

Many of the world's rich and famous have shied away from being spotted vacationing on yachts . Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav made that mistake early in the season, sparking backlash after hosting a lavish soiree overlooking a bevy of yachts on the French Riviera, just weeks after the Hollywood writer's strike kicked off.

But Bezos and his superyacht guests appear undaunted by coverage of their travels.

Bezos named his megaboat Koru, after a Maori symbol of growth (perhaps a reference to being the world's largest sailing yacht at 417 feet long) and new beginnings.

Koru took its maiden voyage to Gibraltar in April, and a flurry of photographed stops followed: In May, a shirtless Bezos and his now-fiancee Lauren Sanchez — who has a striking resemblance to the sculpture on Koru's bow — took the yacht for a spin off the coast of Spain, before sailing it to the Cannes Film Festival.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Lauren Sanchez (@laurenwsanchez)

In June, Koru made its way to the Italian Riviera , where the couple posed for photos on the ship's deck. Then it stopped by the Italian island Capri, before posting up at nearby Positano, a cliffside town that's become a favorite of celebrities and travel influencers.

There, the yacht played host to an engagement party for Bezos and Sanchez , which reportedly drew guests including Bill Gates, Whitney Wolfe Herd, Ari Emanuel, and Leonardo DiCaprio. Just a week later, the couple was seen strolling the streets of Dubrovnik, Croatia, with Orlando Bloom, Katy Perry, and Usher.

Yacht season's runner-up: billionaire Barry Diller's Eos

Another highlight of this year's yacht season was the 305 foot-long Eos, owned by billionaire Barry Diller and fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg, which also had a busy summer criss-crossing the Mediterranean.

Related stories

A staple of superyacht season, Eos' 2023 summer schedule included an early stop in Mallorca , where Diller and von Furstenberg hiked with Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King; a trip to Greece where von Furstenberg visited with British Vogue editor Edward Enninful and Valentino cofounder Valentino Giancarlo Giammetti; and a stop on the Amalfi Coast where von Furstenberg snagged a picture with Kris Jenner.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Diane von Furstenberg (@therealdvf)

In August, the ship made its way to Croatia, where its owners dined with Hollywood A-listers Candice Bergen, Emma Thompson, and Jason Blum, as well as Diane Sawyer and Creative Artists Agency partner Bryan Lourd.

The Eos docked in Venice to end its summer season, where von Furstenberg hosted the annual DVF Awards — and began furnishing one of her dry-land residences.

Not too far away in Venice's harbor was Maìn, Giorgio Armani's yacht, on which he hosted guests like Sydney Sweeney and Kerry Washington as part of his One Night Only fashion event earlier this month.

Many of the world's other famous superyachts — and the folks who frequent them — appear to have largely avoided the public eye this summer.

"In a world of long-lens constant paparazzi, there is a place for relaxed privacy that many of us take for granted," a longtime superyacht employee, who requested anonymity to speak candidly, recently told Insider.

That's likely the privacy that Geffen is enjoying on the Rising Sun, the yacht where Bezos was photographed a few summers ago — and on which Geffen infamously self-isolated in March 2020.

While the ship has been keeping a low profile this yacht season, it's reportedly been spotted in Capri and Mallorca , though without its typical celebrity entourage on board. Most recently it made a splash in a place not typically known for attracting the world's most expensive crafts: Portland, Maine.

Amazon boss Jeff Bezos  was told that his new mega-yacht was too big for the marina in Florida this week.

The third richest man in the world found out this week that his $500million (around £393million) schooner was too big to be moored with the other private yachts in Port Everglades, Florida.

The ship, which stands at a staggering 416ft, had to be moored with oil tankers and other general container ships.

A spokeswoman for the port, told The Times: 'It’s in an area that’s for energy ships.

'When we have large yachts that don’t fit in your typical marina we fit them where they can fit in the port.'

EXCLUSIVE EXCLUSIVE: Jeff Bezos' 417-foot superyacht Koru arrives in US and is moored alongside cruise ship at Ft. Lauderdale seaport instead of other yachts because of its massive size

DailyMail.com snapped exclusive photos of Jeff Bezos' superyacht docked in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, next to a cruise ship because it's too big to fit alongside other yachts

DailyMail.com snapped exclusive photos of Jeff Bezos' superyacht docked in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, next to a cruise ship because it's too big to fit alongside other yachts

The ship, which is called Koru, is named after the Maori word for 'new beginnings'.

It arrived in Florida late last Wednesday evening after departing from Gibraltar two weeks earlier.

Earlier this week, exclusive DailyMail.com images showed the opulent three-masted schooner docked at Port Everglades, nestling between gigantic oil tankers and the vast Liberty of the Seas cruise ship.

Koru was parked up in Port Everglades – a major gateway for cruise ships and international trade - because south Florida's swish yachting marinas typically can't accommodate any boat longer than 400 feet.

Inspired by Black Pearl, the fictional ship in Pirates of the Caribbean, Koru took three years to build in the historic port of Zwijndrecht, close to Rotterdam in the Netherlands, by sailboat specialists Oceanco.

At nearly twice the length of an Airbus A380, it is the second largest sailing ship in the world, surpassed only by the Philippe Starcke designed Sailing Yacht A, owned by Russian fertiliser billionaire Andrey Melnichenko.

Its dedicated support vessel, the Abeona – a 246-foot floating garage for the tycoon's helicopter, jet skis and luxury cars – is currently docked four miles away at a shipyard in Dania Beach.

The multi-billionaire pays an estimated $25million (around £19million) a year to staff and operate Koru, the world's tallest sailboat with masts measuring 230 feet.

Bezos announced earlier this month that he and fiancée Lauren Sanchez, 53, were leaving Seattle, his base for the past 29 years, to move back to Miami, his childhood home.

He's splashed out on two neighboring mansions on Indian Creek Island, the so-called 'Billionaire's bunker' that is home to Ivanka Trump, Tom Brady and Philadelphia Eagles owner Norman Braman.

The combined $147million purchase gives Bezos 4.6 acres of waterfront land and around 400 feet of bay frontage on Florida's Intercoastal Waterway.

Bezos has stated that he wants to live nearer to his mom Jackie and adoptive father Miguel, who are in their late 70s.

'My parents have always been my biggest supporters. They recently moved back to Miami, the place we lived when I was younger,' he said of his move to Florida.

'I want to be close to my parents, and Lauren and I love Miami. Also, Blue Origin's operations are increasingly shifting to Cape Canaveral. For all that, I'm planning to return to Miami, leaving the Pacific Northwest.'

Former owner of Jeff Bezos' 2nd Florida home sues real estate company over the sale. Here's why

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos bought three homes in south Florida’s Billionaire Bunker in a span of just nine months. But one of those purchases may soon cost the real estate brokerage that sold it to him millions of dollars, as the former homeowner of one of his Florida homes is suing the brokerage that sold the billionaire his second Florida home.

In August 2023, Bezos reportedly bought a waterfront estate in Billionaire Bunker for $68 million. He has famous neighbors, too: Tom Brady, Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner are among the biggest names.

A few months later, in October 2023, Bezos bought his second home in the neighborhood for $79 million. And the owner, who originally listed the home for $85 million, is now suing the brokerage that made the deal.

Here’s what we know about the lawsuit and Bezos’ ties to Florida.

How much did Jeff Bezos pay for his home?

On September 11, Realtor.com reported that the former owner of Jeff Bezos' Billionaire Bunker home, that he bought for $79 million almost a year ago, is suing real estate brokerage Douglas Elliman.

“The seller of the $79 million home is suing real-estate brokerage Douglas Elliman, which handled both sides of the transaction, saying the company misled him about the identity of the buyer and cost him $6 million in the process,” Realtor.com said in the report.

The former owner feels he’s owed a bigger payout because he’d originally listed his home – which includes seven bedrooms, a wine cellar, library, theater and pool – for $85 million, the report said.

What we know about the Bezos’ Billionaire Bunker home lawsuit

According to the complaint filed in the 11th Judicial Circuit in Miami-Dade County , the seller (Brazilian toy and electronics company co-founder Leo Kryss) asked the brokerage if the Amazon CEO was behind the deal during negotiations.

The CEO of the brokerage’s Florida region claims in the complaint that he called Kryss to tell him that it wasn’t Bezos and the buyer wouldn’t pay more than $79 million, leading him to sell at around a 7% discount.

Tendencia Asset Management Ltd, which is an entity tied to Kryss, filed the lawsuit against Douglas Elliman Florida on July 15, demanding a trial by jury to determine if Kryss should be repaid the millions he believes he's owed.

After the deal closed, the CEO who told Kryss the buyer wasn’t Bezos emailed Kryss to confirm that he really didn’t know, and thought the buyer was the family of Benny Klepach, the mayor of Indian Creek Village (Billionaire Bunker), who runs duty-free shops in airports across the Americas.

"Despite Parker’s representations regarding Mr. Klepach, given the duties that were owed by the Broker, Parker’s position as the CEO and President of the Broker, and his 24 years as a lawyer, Parker knew or should have known that the presumed deal did not involve Mr. Klepach’s family, but instead Bezos," the complaint says. "Parker and the Broker failed to disclose the source of the information or take any further steps to confirm the accuracy of this statement."

When did Jeff Bezos buy his Florida houses?

In an April 2, 2024, Seattle Times story , Bezos "agreed to pay about $90 million in an off-market transaction for a six-bedroom home in the Miami-area enclave, according to people with knowledge of the matter. Bezos plans to live there while he tears down the other houses he bought on the island, said one of the people."

In October 2023, the billionaire and Blue Origin CEO reportedly paid $79 million for a seven-bedroom, 14-bathroom mansion set on 1.84 acres in Indian Creek Village , according to Bloomberg. The ultra luxe, ultra private neighborhood is near Miami Beach and earned the nickname Billionaire Bunker for its residents.

In August 2023, Bezos reportedly bought a waterfront estate there for $68 million.

Indian Creek Village, a 300-acre island in Biscayne Bay with about 30 homes, an ultra-exclusive country club and golf course, is one of the richest neighborhoods in the United States.

Where does Jeffrey Bezos live?

Buying two homes in one of Florida's richest neighborhoods is viral material, but Bezos' announcement of leaving his beloved Seattle, Washington, for South Florida caused a stir online. Bezos traded West Coast life for East Coast living.

In November 2023, Bezos announced the news via a throwback video on Instagram, showing him inside his Seattle garage where he founded Amazon in 1994.

"This is my desk here... this is the fax machine," Bezos said in the video while giving a tour of his "office." "That’s my dad behind the camera in this video," he wrote in the post.

Aside from the homes in Billionaire Bunker, Bezos has many ties to Florida . He graduated from Palmetto High School in Miami. His company, Blue Origin, has a facility in Cape Canaveral next to Kennedy Space Center and SpaceX. The owner of the Washington Post reportedly said he was moving to Miami to be closer to his parents and his Blue Origin operations.

"I've lived in Seattle longer than I have lived anywhere else," Bezos wrote in the social media post. "As exciting as the move is, it's an emotional decision for me. Seattle, you will always have a place in my heart."

Who is Jeff Bezos?

Jeff Bezos is the founder of Amazon and has his own aerospace company, Blue Origin. Blue Origin has a site on the Space Coast, visible from Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.

For years, Bezos has been included on several "world's richest" lists .

In April 2023, Forbes ranked billionaire Jeff Bezos as the "top tech mogul" and ranked him the third richest man in the world with an estimated fortune of $180 billion. In April 2022, Forbes reported Bezos was the second richest man in the world with an estimated fortune of $171 billion. In 2021, Forbes ranked the Amazon founder No. 1 as the world's richest man.
