The excitement of taking a boat out on the water and sailing it yourself is unbeatable. Whether you’re a Perth local or a tourist, captaining a Hobie Wave catamaran on the Swan River is the perfect adventure. 

You’ll have an hour on the water on a Hobie Wave that can carry up to four people, so round up your crew and get out there! Even if you have zero sailing experience, this is the ideal vessel for getting started. Sailing it is simple, it’s buoyant and has no aluminium boom at the bottom of the sail.  

Before you set out the staff will give you some tuition and make sure you’re feeling comfortable and confident about captaining a Hobie Wave catamaran. Then, when you’re ready you can explore South Perth’s picturesque Swan River and get your adrenaline pumping as you sail around enjoying the sights. Look out for resident dolphins, black swans and pelicans as you enjoy a memorable sailing session.

• Each catamaran can hold up to four participants; up to 4 people can participate in this experience
• For first time sailors the suggested ideal wind speed is from 8-14 knots - especially if taking children. Between 15-23 knots, the catamarans become quite powerful and the risk of capsize increases. Beyond 24 knots of wind speed sailing may be suspended or the area of sailing may be restricted to a part of the river protected from the wind
• This is a seasonal experience and runs from mid September to mid May

Set sail into the magical waters of the Cockburn Sound on board a luxury 12.5m Schionning-designed sailing catamaran. Starting and ending at the famous Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour, you will gaze in awe as Fremantle, the port and harbour glisten with the dazzling colours of an iconic western Australian sunset. If you're lucky, you may even be joined by a pod of dolphins who love to play around Capella's bow, and from September until December, there is also the chance of encountering humpback whale mothers with their calves as they head south for the summer months. Enjoy a complimentary glass of sparkling wine and shared antipasto as you cruise along at sunset, making new friends and memories under the suns glow at golden hour.

Restrictions.

Suitable for ages 15 and up. Tour operates seasonally between October/November and April, as is weather-dependent. In the event of unfavorable weather forecast you will be rescheduled to another date. Women 28-36 weeks pregnant will require medical clearance to board. Unfortunately, the provider is unable to accommodate anyone over 36 weeks. Not recommended for passengers with recent physical injuries or back problems. Limit of 8 tickets per group / booking.

• Requires a moderate level of mobility for boarding and moving around the vessel
• BYO is encouraged as there is no bar service onboard
• If ocean conditions require it, this experience may travel into the river for guest comfort. Perfect weather conditions or visibility can never be guaranteed.
• Shared antipasto includes a mix of meat, non meat, dairy, and non dairy items
• This is a shared vessel that can take 24 passengers
• In the event of an unfavourable weather forecast, your tour will be rescheduled to another date

Numbers on the Day

This experience requires minimum numbers to proceed. It typically operates with a maximum of 24.

Sailing is wind and weather dependent so the choice of direction will be evaluated closer to the day. The experience provider reserves the right to cancel and reschedule if conditions require it, right up until the time of departure. If your experience is cancelled you will be contacted by the provider.

It is advisable to bring a wind cheater or spray jacket and/or a warm jumper to keep the chill at bay. Sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat are recommended. Shoes are not allowed on deck, you are however welcome to wear them inside.

Suitable for ages 15 and up. This tour is generally an adult environment.

This experience departs from the outside jetty in front of Cicerello's (under the Cicerello's sign) at Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour, 44 Mews Road Fremantle, WA 6160. Please arrive at least 15 minutes early ready for boarding as we cannot hold up the vessel and other guests if you are late.

Your sunset adventure will start and finish at world famous Cicerello's at Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour.

Experience our magnificent west coast sunset and watch Fremantle, the Port and Harbour come alive with a kaleidoscope of colour as we watch the day turn into night. We may even be joined by a pod of dolphins which love to play around the front of the boat as we sail into the sunset.

OTHER INFORMATION

• Sailing is an adult environment, but children are  welcome as part of a family group, with a minimum age of 2 years (no  babies in arms). You are welcome to take part in the sailing, raising,  lowering and trimming of the sails and taking the helm - please let our crew know you'd love to join in!
• Sailing can be a windy and wet experience. It is  advisable to bring a warm and/or windproof jacket to keep the  chill at bay after the sun goes down. Bare feet on deck is preferred  otherwise white or light-soled flat shoes please. No heels on deck.
• There will be other guests on the boat with you. We generally operate with a minimum of 10 guests and a maximum of 24.  If minimum numbers are not met for the date requested you will be contacted to discuss rescheduling. 
• Remember, sailing is wind and weather dependent, so the  choice of direction and destinations will need to be evaluated nearer  to the day. We reserve the right to cancel and reschedule if conditions  require it.
• One of the benefits of a catamaran over a monohull vessel is their stability and thus a reduced chance of sea sickness.  However if you are prone to seasickness we do recommend discussing with a pharmacists before coming on board.
• Children aged 2-8 may need to provide their own life jackets (contact us prior as we have a limited number onboard). Children aged under 10 must wear these on board at all times.

Carnac Island Eco-Tour

Important Information

Our unique sailing catamaran offers a luxurious, small group experience like no other. 

Lying between Rottnest and Garden Islands, Carnac Island is an A-class Nature Reserve, teeming with wildlife (David Attenborough has even done a documentary on the wildlife here!).

Carnac Island is a leisurely 45 minute sail from Fremantle Boat Harbour through the sheltered waters of Cockburn Sound. It is an important haul out location for Australian Sea Lions and a myriad of sea birds as well as boasting spectacular diving, snorkelling and fishing.

A large sheltered bay on the eastern side of Carnac provides a safe haven from the southwest wind and swell – you just might have to share the beach with some playful juvenile Sea Lions!

Bottlenose Dolphins are also very common in the area and Capella is able to get closer than other boats without noisy motors scaring them off.

The clear, calm, shallow waters of Carnac island allow you to venture almost right up to the shore where you can step off into waist deep water to head off for a snorkel.

If the easterly is up, no worries! The western side of Carnac is an absolute delight with high limestone cliffs plunging into the water and a truly spectacular anchorage perfect for paddling the kayaks around.

• Morning tea is provided complimentary as part of this experience.  We offer a range of sweet and savoury options that caters to most tastes (e.g. fruit, cakes, pastries, juice, coffee/teas), however if you have strict dietary needs you are most welcome to bring your own. We try to be as broad as possible but unfortunately are unable to cater to individual needs.
• Please advise us in advance of any serious allergies (i.e. anaphylaxis) that we should be aware of.
• Remember, sailing is an outdoor activity and can at times get a little wet and windy.
• We reserve the right to cancel right up until the departure time if conditions are deemed unsafe. We take no responsibility for impacts to other bookings you have made (e.g. hotel) as a result of a decision to cancel.
• Direction is of the skipper who will take all conditions into account on the day (speed, direction etc).

Passenger Conduct, Fitness & Safety

• Please advise the crew upon boarding or before entering the water if you are not a strong swimmer, or have any concerns about in-water activities.
• Tour travels into open waters and requires at least a moderate degree of mobility for boarding and moving around the vessel safely whilst underway. It also requires the use of stairs. If you have any health concerns please contact us prior to booking.
• If you are prone to seasickness, please consider if this tour is right for you. Catamarans are generally very stable however this is an ocean-going experience. We advise you to consult a pharmacist if you have any concerns.
• BYO is permitted providing it is consumed in moderation. We ask guests to refrain from drinking until after water based activities (e.g. snorkeling). Spirits are not to be brought onboard.
• Pregnant guests who will be in their third trimester please contact us prior to making a booking.
• If you turn up intoxicated or heavily affected by any substance you will not be allowed to board. No refunds will be given.
• This is a non smoking tour.

Children On Board

• Children aged 4 to 14 require a child ticket and must be supervised at all times. Please advise their ages in the "age of children" booking field to life jacket provisions can be made in advance.
• Although we do not charge for children aged 1-3 it is subject to availability on the day, which can only be confirmed 24-48 hours before the tour. Please leave prams at home.
• Persons aged 15 to 18 must be accompanied by an adult unless permission has been obtained from management in writing prior.
• Children under 10 may be asked to wear a life jacket whilst underway and at the destination, depending on conditions.
