About Red Sea

Why is Red Sea a good sailing destination?

The Red Sea is not just a sailing destination; it’s a mesmerizing journey into a world that combines natural splendor, historical intrigue, and unparalleled adventure, all available through Yachting.Rent.

The incredible marine life in the Red Sea’s coral reefs is some of the most diverse and well-preserved on the planet. The vibrant underwater ecosystem, home to over 1,200 species of fish and 200 types of corals, provides a thrilling exploration opportunity for snorkelers and divers. Dolphins, turtles, and even hammerhead sharks are part of this aquatic symphony.

The weather in the Red Sea is tailor-made for sailing. With consistent winds and warm waters throughout the year, sailors of all skill levels can enjoy the sea’s embrace. The lack of cyclones and the mild weather patterns provide a safe and pleasurable sailing experience.

Along the coasts of the Red Sea, history comes alive. From the ancient Egyptian temples and tombs to the relics of Ottoman and Roman empires, there’s a rich tapestry of human civilization to discover. The fusion of African, Middle Eastern, and Asian cultures adds a unique flavor to the region.

The Red Sea’s islands are a blend of sandy serenity and rugged beauty. Whether it’s the secluded beaches of the Egyptian coast or the wild landscapes of Saudi Arabia’s Farasan Islands, each offers a unique charm. These islands provide perfect anchorages for yachts and excellent spots for picnicking, swimming, or simply basking in the sun.

Resorts and marinas dotting the Red Sea coast offer a touch of luxury and convenience for sailors. Yachting.Rent ensures that the vessels are equipped with all modern amenities, so you can sail in style and comfort. Customized itineraries and professional crews enhance the quality of the journey.

The Red Sea’s beauty is fragile, and preserving it is a priority. Yachting.Rent promotes responsible sailing practices, emphasizing environmental stewardship. Our commitment to sustainability ensures that future generations can also enjoy this magnificent sea.

Sailing in the Red Sea is never monotonous. Water sports like windsurfing, kayaking, and jet-skiing add excitement to the trip. Fishing enthusiasts can try their luck in the abundant waters, while those seeking relaxation can find peace in the gentle rocking of the sea.

Situated between Africa and Asia, the Red Sea is easily accessible. Its proximity to major cities and tourist destinations adds to its allure as a preferred sailing destination.

The mineral-rich mud and waters of the Red Sea are known for their therapeutic qualities. Many sailors combine their voyage with wellness therapies that rejuvenate the body and mind.

In essence, the Red Sea offers a multifaceted sailing experience that resonates with adventure seekers, history buffs, nature lovers, and those in search of tranquility. Yachting.Rent brings this experience to you, crafting journeys that are not just vacations but lifetime memories. It’s more than a good sailing destination; it’s an extraordinary one.

What Choose

Sailing boat or Catamaran, what to sail in Red Sea

At Yachting.Rent, we understand that the choice of your sailing vessel can greatly impact your maritime adventure in the Red Sea. Two popular choices among sailors and sea enthusiasts are the traditional sailing boat and the modern catamaran. Each of these vessels offers its own unique advantages, catering to different sailing styles and expectations.

If you are a sailing purist, you might lean towards the traditional sailing boat. With its monohull design, a sailing boat is made for cutting through the waves, offering the classic feeling of being one with the wind and sea. As you navigate the Red Sea, a sailing boat will offer you an exhilarating sailing experience, providing the perfect blend of performance and pleasure. The sleek and elegant design of a sailing boat gives it an air of sophistication, making it an ideal choice for those who value tradition and the authentic sailing experience.

On the other hand, if you prioritize comfort, stability, and space, then a catamaran might be your vessel of choice. The twin-hull design of a catamaran gives it superior stability, minimizing the rolling movement, which is especially beneficial for those who are prone to seasickness. A catamaran also boasts a larger deck and interior space, perfect for social gatherings or relaxing in the sun. The shallow draft of a catamaran allows you to explore closer to the coastline and anchor in shallower waters, perfect for exploring the diverse marine life and beautiful coral reefs of the Red Sea.

Regardless of your choice, Yachting.Rent ensures that all of our vessels are equipped with the latest navigational systems, safety equipment, and amenities to ensure your safety and comfort. Our experienced and professional crew members, with their extensive knowledge of the local sea conditions and marine life, will help make your voyage a unique and unforgettable experience.

Whether you choose the adventure and thrill of a sailing boat or the comfort and stability of a catamaran, Yachting.Rent is dedicated to providing you with an exceptional sailing experience in the Red Sea. We are here to ensure your voyage is perfectly tailored to your desires and expectations. Let us help you create memorable experiences and explore the wonders of the Red Sea in your own unique style.

When it comes to the Red Sea, what do you prefer for a good diving trip – liveaboards or resorts? I’ve read that Hurghada is a really cool resort, and Elphinstone Reef – is one of the highlights of the region. Do you think liveaboards are more effective when it comes to properly exploring this wonderful region of the world or are trips to resorts enough?

Every year I am diving in Red Sea (last 18 years). I prefer Hurgada more than Sharm, because in Hurgada You can go diving directly from hotel pier. In Sharm You must go to the port and from there move to dive site. In Marsa Alam resorts You can dive from the shore in most resorts. Usually they have nice home reefs. I am not impressed with Elphinstona. Usually You are diving “into the blue” to see oceanic sharks. It is really very nice, but the dive takes about 20-30 min. The reef is not “something special”. Currents can be very strong, but if You want to dive with sharks, You must be ready for currents. If ou have any quostions, I can recomend You resorts and diving centers in Hurgada. Best regards Fred from Lithuania.

French destroyer rescues 29 mariners from oil tanker stricken in Red Sea attacks by Yemen rebels

D UBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — A French destroyer rescued 29 mariners from an oil tanker that came under repeated attack in the Red Sea by Yemen's Houthi rebels, officials said Thursday, while also destroying a bomb-carrying drone boat in the area.

The assault on the Sounion, the most serious in the Red Sea in weeks, comes during a monthslong campaign by the Houthis targeting ships over the Israel-Hamas war in the Gaza Strip that has disrupted a trade route through which $1 trillion in cargo typically passes each year.

The Sounion is now at anchor in the Red Sea and no longer drifting, the European Union's Operation Aspides said. The vessel had been staffed by a crew of 25 Filipinos and Russians, as well as four private security personnel, who have been taken to nearby Djibouti, the EU mission in the Red Sea said.

The Sounion has 150,000 tons of crude oil aboard and represents a "navigational and environmental hazard,” the mission warned. “It is essential that everyone in the area exercises caution and refrains from any actions that could lead to a deterioration of the current situation.”

Military officials did not name the French destroyer involved in the rescue. The Sounion also had not asked for an escort prior to the attacks, the EU mission said.

The French military separately released an image of the Sounion, showing the blaze on board had been extinguished. It also published an image of its fire targeting the drone boat as well.

Houthi military spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Saree claimed the attack in a prerecorded statement late Thursday night, as well as another attempted attack Wednesday.

“The ship was accurately and directly hit while sailing in the Red Sea and is at risk of sinking, thanks to God,” he said.

In the attack on the Sounion, men on small boats first opened fire with small arms about 140 kilometers (90 miles) west of the rebel-held Yemeni port city of Hodeida, the British military’s United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations center said. Private security on board the tanker returned fire.

Four projectiles also hit the ship, it added. It wasn’t immediately clear if that meant drones or missiles.

The U.S. meanwhile destroyed three Houthi drones in strikes Thursday, the American military’s Central Command said.

The Houthis have targeted more than 80 vessels with missiles and drones since the war in Gaza started in October. They seized one vessel and sank two in the campaign that also killed four sailors.

Other missiles and drones have either been intercepted by a U.S.-led coalition in the Red Sea or failed to reach their targets.

The rebels maintain that they target ships linked to Israel, the United States or the UK to force an end to Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza. However, many of the ships attacked have little or no connection to the conflict, including some bound for Iran.

As Iran threatens to retaliate against Israel over the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran , the U.S. military told the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier strike group to sail more quickly to the area. Early Thursday, the U.S. military’s Central Command said the Lincoln had reached the Mideast’s waters, without elaborating.

America also has ordered the USS Georgia-guided missile submarine into the Mideast, while the USS Theodore Roosevelt aircraft carrier strike group was in the Gulf of Oman.

Additional F-22 fighter jets have flown into the region and the USS Wasp, a large amphibious assault ship carrying F-35 fighter jets, is in the Mediterranean Sea.

Ship 'not under command' after repeated attacks target it in Red Sea, British say

A Greek-flagged oil tanker traveling through the Red Sea has come under repeated attack, leaving the vessel “not under command” and drifting ablaze in an assault suspected to have been carried out by Yemen’s Houthi rebels

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates -- A Greek-flagged oil tanker traveling through the Red Sea came under repeated attack Wednesday, leaving the vessel “not under command” and drifting ablaze after an assault suspected to have been carried out by Yemen's Houthi rebels, the British military said.

The attack, the most serious in the Red Sea in weeks, comes during a monthslong campaign by Houthis targeting ships over the Israel-Hamas war in the Gaza Strip that has disrupted a trade route through which $1 trillion in cargo typically passes each year.

In the attack, men on small boats first opened fire with small arms about 140 kilometers (90 miles) west of the rebel-held Yemeni port city of Hodeida, the British military's United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations center said.

Four projectiles also hit the ship, it added. It wasn't immediately clear if that meant drones or missiles.

“The vessel reports being not under command,” the UKMTO said, likely meaning it lost all power. “No casualties reported.”

Later, the UKMTO warned that the ship was drifting while on fire in the Red Sea.

The Greek shipping ministry later identified the vessel as the tanker Sounion, with 25 crew members on board at the time of the attack as it traveled from Iraq to Cyprus.

Later Wednesday, the UKMTO reported a second ship being targeted in the Gulf of Aden by three explosions that occurred in the water close to it, though they caused no damage. That ship, the Wind I, came under attack again Thursday with two more explosions striking in the water, the UKMTO said.

The Houthis did not immediately claim responsibility for the attacks, though it can take them hours or even days before they acknowledge their assaults. However, they did acknowledge U.S. airstrikes in Hodeida, something the American military's Central Command said destroyed a Houthi surface-to-air missile and radar system.

The Houthis have also launched drones and missiles toward Israel, including an attack on July 19 that killed one person and wounded 10 others in Tel Aviv. Israel responded the next day with airstrikes on Hodeida that hit fuel depots and electrical stations , killing and wounding a number of people, the rebels say.

After the strikes, the Houthis paused their attacks until Aug. 3, when they hit a Liberian-flagged container ship traveling through the Gulf of Aden. A Liberian-flagged oil tanker came under a particularly intense series of attacks beginning Aug. 8 , likely carried out by the rebels. A similar attack happened Aug. 13 as well .

The last three recent attacks, including Wednesday's, targeted vessels associated with Delta Tankers, a Greek company.

As Iran threatens to retaliate against Israel over the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran , the U.S. military told the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier strike group to sail more quickly to the area. Early Thursday, the U.S. military's Central Command said the Lincoln had reached the Mideast's waters, without elaborating.

Crew Rescued, but Oil Tanker Attacked in Red Sea Is an ‘Environmental Hazard’

The incident appeared to be the most serious in weeks involving commercial shipping off Yemen’s coast. It was not clear whether any oil was leaking.

The crew of a Greek-flagged oil tanker that came under gun and missile attack in the Red Sea has been rescued after being forced to evacuate the vessel into a lifeboat, a European Union naval mission said on Thursday. The attack appears to have been the most serious in weeks against commercial shipping off the coast of Yemen.

The stricken vessel, which was carrying 150,000 metric tons of crude oil, was still floating and had become a “navigational and environmental hazard,” according to the E.U. statement. A statement from Delta Tankers, the ship’s operator, said it would be moved to a safer place for repairs. It was not clear whether any oil was leaking.

The Yemen-based Houthi militia, which has staged a series of attacks against commercial ships in the Red Sea in what it says is solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza, has not claimed responsibility.

A person wearing light colored clothes and a scarf, and a brown jacket and sandals walks on the sand carrying a gun.

The tanker, the Sounion, was sailing about 90 miles west of the Yemeni port of Hudaydah early on Wednesday when two small boats approached it, said a statement on social media from Britain’s maritime trade agency, which is based in Dubai.

“The first craft had three to five persons onboard while the second had approximately 10,” the statement said. “The two small craft hailed the merchant vessel, leading to a brief exchange of small-arms fire.”

The small craft retreated and the ship was then hit by three “unidentified projectiles,” starting a fire and causing the ship to lose engine power, it said. It was not clear on Thursday whether the fire had been extinguished.

The crew was rescued by a ship from an E.U. military mission, Operation Aspides, that has been mounted in response to attacks by the Houthi militia, according to a statement the mission posted on social media Thursday.

The statement included a photograph showing an enclosed lifeboat, typical in the oil industry, bobbing in the water and a second photo of crew members aboard a rescue speedboat.

After coming under attack, the ship’s captain called for help. The E.U. military destroyed what it described as an “unmanned surface vessel” that had posed an imminent danger to the Sounion. The crew was being transported to Djibouti, the statement said.

The Houthi militia, which is backed by Iran, began firing late last year on ships entering the Red Sea en route to the Suez Canal, which is a vital artery for vessels moving between Asia, Europe and the eastern United States.

The United States and Britain have launched strikes against the Houthis in response, but analysts have said they have done little to damage the militia’s military infrastructure. The attacks have continued, forcing ships to find alternative routes and disrupting global trade . Oil prices on Thursday were little changed, trading near their lowest levels of the year.

Over the course of dozens of attacks, at least two vessels have sunk and at least three crew members have been killed.
