Carpenter 29 performance

Hi all, does anyone know of, or have experience in the performance of a Carpenter 29? How would it compare to say a Farr 9.2 or Lotus 9.2? I know it would likely be slower than a Y88, but by how much?
Does anyone know any history on the Carpenter 29?

Looks like a "fast" Carpenter 29...
http://racetrack.org.nz/class.php?rnk=2&s=1&classid=129
is about as fast as a slow Farr 9.2...
http://racetrack.org.nz/class.php?rnk=2&s=1&classid=16
I'd say all the 29fters are equally likely to win and it would probably come down to the best crew.

I had a look when i bought my boat and they a bit more cruiser orientated than racing, depending on what you want then the Lidgard 29 is good option in the same space, not quite as big inside but definatly sails better, Seems like the lidgard fits at the head of the cruising 29's (Whiting, Davidson, Marauder, Carpenter) and a bit behind the 88's.
If you want to take a look at one without the saleman send me a PM, I can also offer a ride Thursdays or during BMW to see how one performs
hey farr9.2 will plane where as we have never managed to get the carpenter too! the Carpenter much bigger inside and better looking. Neither will hold a 88

Lidgard info please.
NSW, 402 posts
Hi to all, I have a sailing friend who is considering upsizing from his Cole23. He's particularly interested in, and looking at, a Lidgard 29 - but in trying to do his due diligence and research has found there's almost no info online except other boats for sale. Can anyone help with any info, links, or personal experience about the Lidguard 29? TIA.

Haven't owned or sailed on one but know of them reasonably well - good design and nice turn of speed. Is it the one in Gippsland? It looks good but needs more information on hull and deck lay-up beyond just "graphite". Note sure why the main is short hoist. Masthead running backstays a pain but the main roach could be trimmed off (and head lengthened to full hoist) to leave just fixed backstay. You've probably seen this discussion; crew.org.nz/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/5440-whiting-29-vs-lidgard-29-vs-marauder/ Duthie Lidgard designed the 25/26 strip planked cedar ply deck ones and assume the 29 as well. If the below is the same bloke he could respond? www.instagram.com/duthie.lidgard/?hl=en Gary Lidgard here might be able to assist www.lidgarddesign.com/StudyPlans.html#Click%20any Be good to know if it was professionally built and if so where, by who. Presumably the prior owner - realise now deceased - had a fact file on the boat which could be checked out.

Final Approach 60ft Cr uis e r/Racer
Custom-built to be both racer and bluewater cruiser, Final Approach is "a rocket, but a comfy one".
Suitable for live-aboard, but she rewards attention to trim. The cold-molded hull retains its value so with a bit of love, she'll give access to performance for decades.
Offers welcome. P.O.A.
Final Approach
1985 custom lidgard 60 puerto vallarta, mexico.
Specification
Exceptional build quality and construction type summarised in excerpts from a formal survey
& the Vital Stats of Final Approach
THE LIDGARD LEGEND
" Proudest project "
of legendary boat designer, John Lidgard of New Zealand
Why 'Lidgard Legend'?
Three reasons Final Approach deserves her nickname
Legendary Build Quality
This beautiful boat was designed by John Lidgard using the rare & highly desirable hybrid construction type using the exceptional Kauri cold-molding construction protocol: 1&1/2" with double reinforcing 45 degree cross lamination of 1/4" layers for a total thickness of 1.5+ inches then glassed over on the outside. This rare wood, not subject to dry rot & fully epoxy saturated & encapsulated in this construction type. "A rocket, but a comfy one", remarked Robert H. Perry.
Legendary History
Built by John Lidgard of the legendary New Zealand Lidgards, Final Approach is of auspicious beginnings. Designed custom for World Champion Sailor, DJ Johnson, she was so well-known after his time sailing her in races around Hawaii that the 3-day race which still takes place in DJ's honour has as its trophy, a beautiful half model of Final Approach herself!
"I had no idea quite what a racing pedigree sits behind the Lidgard name, I mainly associated them with cruising."
Legendary One-off Value
Comfortable for cruising and fast enough to race, but so sturdy that she has plenty of life for another generation of sailors, Final Approach is a unique boat providing a unique offer for a new Captain and their family. We wish we could keep her longer, but we're having to give her up with haste. So if you're interested, you're in for a great deal!
Final Approach was going to be our family's forever-boat , originally bought in the brothers' names so it would live on to make memories for our next generation. Sadly, after returning to Europe for medical treatment, her newest captain won't be returning to her, so we're having to wave goodbye .
FAMILY OWNED & LOVED
A generation of wonderful memories, handed over gratefully

The entire process was simple and both sales and the design team were in regular contact if there were any questions. The customer portal was easy to use and lets you keep track of where in the process your sails are. Great sails, great service -Graham Edwards (Facebook)

“ We received our spinnaker and launched it yesterday and I just wanted to let you know how pleased we are with it. The service we received from your company was exceptional and the quality of your product is second to none. We will certainly be return customers in the next few months to replace our main and jib sails and will recommend your company to all our sailing buddies. Once again-thank you.” -Daniel Jackson (Google)
“ we had good communication during the planning stages and the knowledgeable people at precision sails really got me fixed up good! The sails look and work fabulous! my boat sails better than it ever had! couldn’t be more pleased with the product AND the service!” -Fred Jelich (Facebook)
“ Our new furling jib for a Corsair 27 Had to be specially designed due to the height of the furler, but this was accomplished quickly and in short order we had our sail which fits beautifully and has a great shape. It’s everything we could have wanted, high tech design, thoughtfully executed and affordable.” -Nancy Y. (Yelp)

In NZ they had some stiff competition around the same time, the Whiting 29, Carpenter 29 and Farr 9.2 were all generally in the same vein and all had a number of boats built. Then the Young 88 and Noelex 30 were the next step up in performance. A mix of factory finished vs owner fit out, and a few with ply/glassed cabins and decks.
The Marauder has loads of room for a boat of it's length, the Whiting 29 possibly a fraction smaller internally but not much in it. The D28 also has plenty of room, similar to the Carpenter 29. The Lidgard is the smallest internally.

Can anyone with a Carpenter 29, Lidgard 29 or a Whiting 29 tell me what the headroom is in the cabin and the head of their yacht? I keep coming across a variety of measurements and would like to know what they actually are.
