There are a number of diverse museums including the Musée Peynet, Archaeology Museum, Musée de la Tour and Postcard Museum. The best known of Antibes’ museums is the Picasso Museum. Located inside the restored Château Grimaldi, that once belonged to the influential Grimaldi family who took royal posts in Cagnes, Monaco and Grasse.

The Picasso Museum is best reached by walking along the old remparts where you can get panoramic views of the town beach Plage de la Gravette, the superyachts berthed at the IYCA (International Yacht Club d’Antibes) quay at Port Vauban and 16 th -century Fort Carré in the distance.

Antibes’ markets offer a glimpse into French life. The Marché Provençal at Cours Masséna is a lively market, selling fruit, vegetables, flowers, cured meats, olives, herbs and hand-milled soaps. It is open daily except Mondays from September to May. Thursday sees the rue Lacan car park become a large clothing market. And also a small but interesting antiques / brocante market is hosted at place Audiberti on both Thursday and Saturday.

The district of Safranier at the western edge of Old Town has pretty cobblestoned streets with flower boxes. It also has the ancient lavoir (wash house) and at number 8 Rue Bas-Castellet you’ll find the house that Nikos Kazantzakis, the author of ‘Zorba the Greek’ lived in. If you fancy a glass of wine try one of three distinctly different wine bars, all located within a few minutes from Port Vauban. Winebar is the latest addition to Antibes nightlife. It has friendly staff and a funky décor with leather armchairs, bicycles suspended from the ceiling and great artwork. Ô 6 Conceptstore Bar à Vins (6 rue des Palmiers) with vaulted stone interior. Le Carnet de Bord is a bistro-style restaurant where diners can choose from an inventive menu. With specialties such as scallops with pumpkin, ginger and fennel or caramelised pork fillet with girolle mushrooms and sweet potato. Ensure you reserve a table as the seating is limited.

La Tour Antique ( 4 rue de la Tourraque) situated a short distance from the remparts is ideal for a romantic meal. With less than 20 covers reservations are essential, as locals and tourists alike seek out this Italian restaurant. The menu is concise with 4 options for entrees, pasta, mains and desserts. However, you won’t regret dining there as the hospitable staff present quality food in a welcoming atmosphere.

For a relaxed ambiance, Pimm’s Bar on rue de la République is a fantastic place to sit with a pastis or chilled glass of rosé and watch the passerbys. To sample the best pâtisseries head to Pâtisserie Cottard (8 boulevard Dugommier) or Aux Délices Antibois (12 rue de la République).
