who owns motor yacht dragon

When it comes to superyachts, the sky is the limit when it comes to cost.

These luxury vessels come with hefty price tags that can range from anywhere between $30 million to over $400 million.

So, if youre in the market for a superyacht, youre looking at an investment that could easily break the bank.

The cost of a superyacht is driven by a variety of factors, including size, amenities, and customization.

Generally, the larger the yacht, the more expensive it will be.

Superyachts typically range in size from 100 feet to over 200 feet, and they can be as wide as 40 feet.

The bigger the yacht, the more luxurious features and amenities it will have.

Amenities also play a significant role in the cost of a superyacht.

While some owners prefer to keep their yachts out of the public eye, others have made headlines with their extensive amenities.

From swimming pools and helicopter pads to on-board cinemas and spas, the sky is the limit when it comes to customizing a superyacht.

The more amenities a superyacht has, the more expensive it will be.

Finally, customization is another major factor that will drive up the cost of a superyacht.

Many luxury vessels have custom-designed interiors that are tailored to the owners tastes.

From custom furniture and artwork to lighting and audio systems, the cost of a superyacht can quickly escalate depending on the level of customization.

In short, the cost of a superyacht can vary widely depending on its size, amenities, and customization.

While some may be able to get away with spending a few million dollars, others may end up spending hundreds of millions of dollars on their dream yacht.

No matter what your budget is, its important to do your research and find out exactly what youre getting for your money before signing on the dotted line.

Keeping Superyachts Out of the Public Eye

When it comes to owning a superyacht, some owners prefer to keep their vessels out of the public eye.

Understandably, these individuals are concerned with privacy and discretion, and therefore tend to take measures to ensure their yachts are not visible to outsiders.

For instance, some superyacht owners opt to keep their vessels in private marinas, away from the public areas of larger ports.

Additionally, some yacht owners may choose to hire security guards to patrol and protect their vessels while they are moored or sailing.

In addition to physical security, some superyacht owners also use technology to keep their vessels out of the public eye.

For example, a yacht owner may choose to install a satellite-based communications system that allows them to keep their vessel completely off-radar.

This system works by bouncing signals off satellites rather than transmitting them, making it virtually impossible for anyone to track the yachts movements.

Finally, some superyacht owners also choose to limit the number of people who have access to their vessels.

For instance, the owner may only allow family members and close friends to board the yacht.

Additionally, the owner may choose to employ a limited number of staff to help maintain the vessel and keep it running smoothly.

These individuals may be required to sign non-disclosure agreements to ensure they do not disclose any information about the yacht or its owner.

Overall, while some superyacht owners may choose to keep their vessels out of the public eye, there are still plenty of other ways to show off the opulence associated with owning a superyacht.

From swimming pools and helicopter pads to on-board cinemas and spas, there are many luxurious amenities that can make a superyacht the envy of any jet setter.

Final Thoughts

Superyachts are a symbol of luxury and status, and the list of yacht owners reads like a who’s who of billionaires.

From the Emir of Qatar’s world-record breaking $400 million yacht to Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen’s vessel with a helicopter pad and on-board spa, the amenities of these luxury vessels are truly stunning.

With prices ranging from $30 million to over $400 million, owning a superyacht is an expensive endeavor.

Inside the 'Fly Fleet': billionaire Google founder Sergey Brin's growing flotilla of megayachts, boats, and jet skis

In a quiet harbor in California's Redwood City, 30 miles south of San Francisco, there often sits a gleaming 40-meter yacht flying the flag of the Marshall Islands.

The sleek, silver-and-white vessel sits among a smattering of other high-end cruisers, but this boat is a bit different: Butterfly, as the yacht is known, is owned by the world's 13th-richest person, Google's cofounder Sergey Brin.

Butterfly isn't the tech mogul's only oceangoing investment. Brin has quietly collected a fleet of luxury yachts and water-sports vehicles that those in his inner circle call the "Fly Fleet," a recent Insider investigation into the post-Google lives of the 49-year-old and his fellow Google founder, Larry Page, found.

The blossoming armada is just one part of how he's keeping busy since stepping back from Google's parent company, Alphabet, in 2019 — along with a string of high-flying parties , an effort to build a new generation of zeppelins, and hundreds of millions of dollars in philanthropic donations .

According to people close to Brin, the Fly Fleet consists of three major vessels and a coterie of small craft and water-sports equipment. First, there's Dragonfly — a 73-meter flagship yacht that features a helipad and movie theater and that was once described by Boat International as the "fastest, most fuel-efficient long-range cruising superyacht on the water."

There's also the 40-meter Butterfly, which is often moored in the Bay Area, can sleep up to eight guests, and was built by Danish Yachts .

According to associates of Brin, Butterfly's crew members often spend their afternoon downtime kitesurfing in the bay off Redwood City and have gotten involved in the local community, from helping out with scientific research to giving swimming lessons to kids.

Rounding out the main trio is a smaller pleasure craft called Firefly, the lowest profile of the three vessels.

To maintain the fleet, along with a whole flotilla of jet skis, dinghies, kiteboards, and other sports vessels that Brin splashes around on, the Google founder employs a 50-person team around the globe, led by the master mariner Mike Gregory.

Many of Brin's smaller water-sports toys — as well as Page's — have been supplied by Kai Concepts, a startup that builds high-tech aquatic vehicles, including foilboards and a kite-propelled boat. Based in Alameda, California, the company is run by the world-champion windsurfer Don Montague, who cofounded a wind-power company called Makani, which Google acquired in 2013 and later shut down.

Brin is believed to have put money into the business — and Kai employees have helped out with manufacturing projects for Page's now defunct flying-car startup Kittyhawk, two people familiar with the arrangement said.

Page is taking a different approach to boating, sources said. While he spends much of his time at his collection of tropical islands around the world, he has sold his superyacht Senses and downsized to an assortment of smaller vessels.

Body of British tech magnate Mike Lynch is among those recovered from yacht wreckage, officials say

Italy Boaters Missing Italian firefighter divers bring ashore in a plastic bag the body of one of the victims of a shipwreck, in Porticello, Sicily, southern Italy, Thursday, Aug. 22, 2024. Divers searching the wreck of the superyacht Bayesian that sank off Sicily on Monday recovered a fifth body on Thursday and continued to search for one more as investigators sought to learn why the vessel sank so quickly. (AP Photo/Salvatore Cavalli) (Salvatore Cavalli/AP)

PORTICELLO, Sicily — (AP) — The Italian coast guard said Thursday the body of British tech magnate Mike Lynch is among those recovered off the coast of Sicily from the wreckage of a superyacht whose builders had called unsinkable.

One woman remains missing. She has not been identified, but Hannah Lynch, Lynch's 18-year-old daughter, is reportedly unaccounted for . The family had been celebrating his recent acquittal on fraud charges with the people who defended him at trial in the United States.

Five others were recovered by rescue crews following Monday's tragedy.

The Bayesian, a 56-meter (184-foot) British-flagged yacht, went down in a storm early Monday as it was moored about a kilometer (half a mile) offshore. Civil protection officials said they believe the ship was struck by a tornado over the water, known as a waterspout , and sank quickly.

Termini Imerese Public Prosecutor's Office investigators were collecting evidence for a criminal investigation, which they opened immediately after the tragedy despite no formal suspects having been publicly identified.

The chief executive of The Italian Sea Group, which owns the Bayesian's manufacturer, told the AP in an interview on Thursday that superyachts like these are “designed to be unsinkable."

“And it is unsinkable not only because it is designed in this way, but also because it is a sailing ship and sailing ships are the safest ever,” CEO Giovanni Costantino said.

Costantino added that “obviously they must not hit the rocks violently, discarding the hull, and they must not take in water,” suggesting the second possibility was the most likely in this case.

Costantino also noted that sailing ships require “a greater competence” to be guided compared with motor boats.

Investigators are now looking at why the Bayesian, built in 2008 by Italian shipyard Perini Navi, sank while a nearby sailboat remained largely unscathed . Fifteen of the 22 people aboard survived by escaping in a lifeboat, including a mother who reported holding her 1-year-old baby over the waves to save her. They were rescued by the sailboat Sir Robert Baden Powell.

The sailboat's captain, Karsten Borner, said his craft sustained minimal damage — the frame of a sun awning broke — even with winds that he estimated had reached 12 on the Beaufort wind scale, the highest hurricane-strength force on the scale.

He said he had remained anchored with his engines running to try to maintain the ship’s position as the forecast storm rolled in.

“Another possibility is to heave anchor before the storm and to run downwind at open sea,” Borner said in a text message. But he said that might not have been possible for the Bayesian, given its 75-meter (246-foot) tall mast.

“If there was a stability problem, caused by the extremely tall mast, it would not have been better at open sea,” he said.

Yachts like the Bayesian are required to have watertight compartments that are specifically designed to prevent a rapid, catastrophic sinking even when some parts fill with water.

Lynch is the only person confirmed dead; the other bodies have not been formally identified by the Italian coast guard.

Besides Hannah Lynch, those missing are Christopher Morvillo, one of Lynch’s U.S. lawyers, and his wife, Neda; Jonathan Bloomer, chairman of Morgan Stanley’s London-based investment banking subsidiary, and his wife, Judy.

The body of chef Recaldo Thomas was the first to be recovered , on Monday. His death was confirmed by his family.

Friends of Thomas, best known as "Rick," paid tribute to him on Thursday at a favorite bar in the Caribbean Island of Antigua. Cooking for Lynch was supposed to be one of Thomas' last jobs before retiring, his cousin, David Isaac, told the AP.

Divers have struggled to find the bodies in the yacht's hull on the seabed 50 meters (164 feet) underwater.

“We would need a crystal ball to know when we'll be able to find the next body," said Luca Cari, spokesperson for the fire rescue service.

“It's very difficult to move inside the wreckage. Moving just one meter can take up to 24 hours,” Cari said.

Silverwing & Vermithor Explained: Who Rides Them In House Of The Dragon, History & How They Compare To Vhagar

Warning: Contains SPOILERS for House of the Dragon season 2, episode 7, and the book Fire & Blood.

  • Vermithor and Silverwing, two dragons in House of the Dragon, play a key role in the battle against the Greens.
  • The dragons were previously bonded with and flown by King Jaehaerys I Targaryen and Queen Alysanne, but were then riderless for around 30 years.
  • Vermithor and Silverwing are claimed by Hugh Hammer and Ulf White in House of the Dragon season 2.

Silverwing and Vermithor will be two of the most important dragons going forward in House of the Dragon . There are several dragons in House of the Dragon , with most of them belonging to Rhaenyra Targaryen's Team Black. They need all the firepower they can get if they're to defeat the Greens, especially because they have the biggest dragon, Vhagar.

That's where Vermithor and Silverwing come in, with the former first appearing in House of the Dragon season 1's ending , with Daemon Targaryen singing to him. Rhaenyra's place of finding people with traces of Valyrian ancestry to fly the creatures in the Dance of the Dragons pays off big time, with Hugh and Ulf claiming them. The dragons will take on a bigger role in the story, but they've already got quite the history.

Silverwing & Vermithor's History & Previous Riders

Vermithor & silverwing were bonded with the king & queen.

Silverwing and Vermithor are both close to 100-years-old during House of the Dragon season 2's timeline - the latter was born around 34 AC, the former just a few years later, making them two of the oldest dragons around outside of Vhagar (who is approximately 180-years-old at this point). Silverwing is a she-dragon whose name comes from her appearance, as she is described as "silvery," while Vermithor is a male dragon whose appearance and fierce nature earns him the nickname "the Bronze Fury."

Vermithor hatched from an egg placed in the cradle of Prince Jaehaerys Targaryen, and Silverwing from one given to his sister, Alysanne, and they later bonded with and were flown by them. Jaehaerys became King in 48 AC, and he and Alysanne became the riders of Vermithor and Silverwing, respectively, that same year.

Jaehaerys' rule was mostly a peaceful one, meaning there wasn't too much cause for the dragons to see battle. The most notable story about them during this period comes from their visit to the Wall, as recounted by Lord Cregan Stark in House of the Dragon season 2, episode 1.

Jaehaerys and Alysanne flew their dragons to the Wall, but Vermithor and Silverwing refused to go beyond it (or couldn't). Ostensibly, the reason for this is that they sensed the White Walkers lurking in the far North. In the book, it's only said that Silverwing refused to fly beyond the Wall (with Vermithor not present at that exact point), but the show included them both in the story. Given their riders, Vermithor and Silverwing were mates and coiled together

Game Of Thrones' 6-Year-Old Daenerys Targaryen Plot Hole Is Made A Lot Worse By House Of The Dragon

Game of Thrones season 7 left behind a major plot hole with Daenerys Targaryen and her dragons, and House of the Dragon season 2 adds to the problem.

Queen Alysanne died in 100AC (a year before the first scene of House of the Dragon season 1, which begins at the Great Council of 101 AC), and King Jaehaerys died three years later. No one has claimed Vermithor nor Silverwing since , meaning they lived riderless on Dragonstone for around 30 years, until the Dance of the Dragons meant they needed to be called into action.

Ulf Rides Silverwing & Hugh Rides Vermithor In House Of The Dragon

The riders are not highborn targaryens.

The riders of the two dragons are quite unlikely: Ulf the White rides Silverwing, and Hugh Hammer rides Vermithor. Ulf was first introduced in House of the Dragon season 2, episode 2, where he claimed to be the bastard son of Baelon Targaryen, and thus the half-brother of Viserys and Daemon. Hugh, meanwhile, debuted in the season 2 premiere, as a smith working in King's Landing, and became a prominent part of the smallfolk story there.

Who Is Hugh Hammer? House Of The Dragon's Blacksmith & Future Importance Explained

The blacksmith named Hugh who petitions to King Aegon II Targaryen in House of the Dragon season 2 will end up having a huge role in the Dance.

How Was Ulf Able To Claim Silverwing?

There's no record that Ulf is actually who he claims, but he is a dragonseed - that is, people with traces of Valyrian blood, which is believed to be enough to mean they can ride dragons . If Ulf really were Baelon's bastard, then he'd be the grandson of Silverwing's previous rider, Alysanne. Even if not, Silverwing obviously sensed something within him - perhaps a credit to the fact he made it this far - that led to them bonding.

Ulf didn't actually try to claim Silverwing, and that might be part of it as well. He accidentally comes across the dragon after going deeper into their lair, attempting to discover a way out. If Silverwing had grown similarly lonely - like we heard Seasmoke had previously - then that could be another factor in their bond.

How Did Hugh Claim Vermithor?

In Fire & Blood , it is noted that Lord Gormon Massey tried to claim Vermithor, and the Bronze Fury burned him . He has a fierce nature - whereas Silvering is said to be calmer - and burns everyone in his path in season 2, episode 7... except for Hugh. The smith is seemingly ready to sacrifice his own life to save another, and tries to match Vermithor's anger, which works in his favor: Vermithor may see Hugh as someone similar to himself, and appreciate his bravery.

Like with Ulf, it's also possible that Hugh's lineage helps him here. Not just that he's a Targaryen, but who he's related to. He says his mother worked in a pleasure house, and was the aunt of Viserys and Daemon. That could mean she was Jaehaerys' daughter, Saera, who in the book did work in a pleasure house and had bastard children. If so, then Hugh is Jaehaerys' grandson, a direct line to Vermithor's last rider . Dragons seemingly like that kind of connection - similar to Seasmoke choosing Addam - and it's likely a factor for both Ulf and Hugh.

How Big & Powerful Are Silverwing & Vermithor Compared To Vhagar?

Could they beat the biggest dragon alive.

Regardless of the people who failed, it is Ulf and Hugh who ride Silverwing and Vermithor in the Dance of the Dragons. They are a huge boon to the power of Rhaenyra's Team Black , giving them two large, powerful dragons. But just how big and powerful are they? After all, what really matters if being able to beat Vhagar, so can either of them do that?

Vermithor is larger still, and comes second only to Vhagar in size in terms of dragons that are claimed.

Silverwing is a large dragon, bigger than the best Team Black has had to offer so far, such as Caraxes and Meleys, albeit more docile in nature, less battle-tested, and likely not as quick and agile (certainly compared to Meraxes, who used that to her advantage against Vhagar). Vermithor is larger still, and comes second only to Vhagar in size in terms of dragons that are claimed. He is more ferocious and has a lot of brawn, but again, doesn't have the same experience Vhagar does.

The Biggest Dragons In Game Of Thrones & House Of The Dragon

Between Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, and the lore from George R.R. Martin's books, these dragons stand out as the biggest to roam Westeros.

If Silverwing and Vermithor teamed up against Vhagar, they'd have a good chance of defeating her. One on one, however, while Vermithor vs. Vhagar could be a close fight, it's unlikely either dragon would get the job done given Vhagar's much greater combat experience (Vermithor's most notable experience is the Fourth Dornish War, which mostly involved burning ships from above). Nonetheless, they are two major assets in House of the Dragon .

What Happens To Silverwing & Vermithor In House Of The Dragons

The two have a significant & surprising role in the book.

Silverwing and Vermithor's first taste of action in the Dance of the Dragons comes in the Battle of the Gullet, which will likely occur in House of the Dragon season 3 . This is a battle where the Triarchy, allied with Otto Hightower, attempts to smash Corlys Velaryon's blockade of the Gullet, with some 90 warships sent to do so. Eventually, almost the full strength of Team Black's dragons are sent, including Silverwing, Vermithor, Seasmoke, and Sheepstealer, turning the battle in their favor.

It's not all good news for the Blacks, however, as Ulf and Hugh do later betray Rhaenyra at the First Battle of Tumbleton, likely because of their own greed.

It's not all good news for the Blacks, however, as Ulf and Hugh do later betray Rhaenyra at the First Battle of Tumbleton, likely because of their own greed. They switch allegiance and join the Greens, causing Team Black to lose that particular battle. Vermithor eventually dies in the Second Battle of Tumbleton, but Silverwing is one of the few dragons to survive the Dance of the Dragons , which will presumably be the case in House of the Dragon too.

New episodes of House of the Dragon season 2 release Sundays at 9pm ET on HBO and Max.

Heesen delivers the first yacht of 2024: YN 20255, now named Iris Blue

who owns motor yacht dragon

Heesen is delighted to announce the delivery of the first yacht of the restyled 55-metre series following intensive tests in the North Sea. During the three-day sea trials, Iris Blue met all the required specifications, and the tests were conducted smoothly and according to plans. During the second day of trials, the yacht was tested in rough sea conditions, with waves up to 1.7 metres from north to northwest and westerly to north-westerly winds with gusts up to 28 knots. Just like her foresisters, Iris Blue proved to be highly responsive, accepting steering commands immediately. The use of large rudders in conjunction with a powerful steering unit makes for a very quick reaction, as does the high pitch of the propellers. The overall effect instils great confidence in the captain when manoeuvring in strong wind conditions.

Frank Laupman of Omega Architects, the original designer of this series, carried out the restyle of the exterior lines. “As much as we love our original design with the vertical windows, we felt it was time to make an evolutionary step,” says Frank. “We opted for a larger expanse of floor-to-ceiling glass, without mullions in the main saloon. Then, we took the opportunity to give a slightly more aggressive look to the profile by using continuous sheets of tinted glass. The horizontal lines stretch the optical length and balance the air draft. The result is beautiful: we retained the family look and feel but gave it an elegant touch.”

The design revisitation lends the yacht a more assertive stance on the water.

The owner’s quarters now feature a veranda on the starboard side, which is a truly transformative innovation. This feature is something truly unique that fundamentally changes the space experience in the 78 sqm stateroom, which now also includes new walk-in wardrobes. The possibility to access an outdoor area in complete privacy is a wonderful addition to this space.”

The layout has also been reconsidered and now features a larger sundeck with a bar around the whirlpool forward. On the main deck, the central atrium has been modernised, with a wider and revised main staircase, while there is an additional companionway from the wheelhouse deck up to the sun deck to ease crew access.

Niels Vaessen, Heesen CEO, comments: “Heesen 55-metre Steel is a unique and very competitive design. We believe in this proven design platform and have worked with Omega and Luca Dini on creating a yacht that meets the refined tastes of clients who appreciate Dutch quality with a shortened delivery time. Iris Blue is a wonderful addition to our fleet, and we wish the Owners and her crew many days of happy sailing”.
