Take a Look at This Huge Yacht-Inspired Home Going Up Near Lido Beach

The company building the home, Trinity Construction & Design, recently celebrated the completion of the home's concrete shell.

The home will be three stories tall, with a roof deck on top.

From the roof, you can see all the way to Big Pass.

The structure of the building was made with more than 100 tons of steel and more than 1,500 yards of concrete.

Construction began on July 1, 2019, and is expected to take two and a half years in total.

With no other structures on the home's northern, western or southern sides, the property offers unrestricted views in nearly every direction.

If you've been out to Lido Beach in recent months, there's no way you missed it: the massive new home currently under construction at 1 John Ringling Blvd., right near the island's northern stretch of public beach.

Construction on the project began on July 1, 2019. The company building the 10,000-square-foot home, Trinity Construction & Design , recently celebrated a milestone—the topping out of the project—and invited Sarasota Magazine to tour the property.

Doug Libertore, who owns a residence adjacent to the home, purchased the property for $2.3 million in 2011. The house was designed by Mark Sultana of DSDG Architects  after an original design and concept was completed by Jan Stanbury of J. Stanbury Design Inc. in 2017 . The look  is intended to echo the style and shape of a luxurious yacht, with a curved "bow" protruding out toward the beach and the Gulf of Mexico. There are no other structures on the home's northern, western or southern sides, which gives the property unrestricted views of the sand and the water. And the home is tall enough that, when you're standing on the roof deck, you can see all the way to downtown Sarasota.

The home's pool will be located on the third floor, at the point where the concrete juts out the farthest. Behind it will be a patio space below roof openings covered by retractable awnings, and then the master suite and kitchen area. Sliding glass doors will provide exceptional views no matter where you stand. The second floor will contain more bedrooms, and the roof will boast a glass-enclosed room from which you can see all the way to Big Pass.

With the main structure of the building now complete, Trinity will turn to framing the interior. Utilities and finishes will then follow. Thomson estimates that the total construction process should take roughly two and a half years. Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, the project has remained on schedule. Trinity declined to provide a total budget for the project; permits filed with the City of Sarasota estimate construction costs at just over $4 million.

Building the home has taken an incredible amount of planning and resources, says Nehamiah Thomson, Trinty's vice president of field operations. The company is required to protect nearby dunes and trees, and must be careful not to disturb sea turtle nests.  To steady the home, the company has driven 149 piles 35 feet deep into the ground, and has used more than 100 tons of steel and more than 1,500 yards of concrete. "This is a once-in-a-lifetime project," Thomson says.

Our property is walking distance from restaurants and island shopping in the village of Siesta Key. It features incredible views, offers a ton of “modern lifestyle” amenities and includes one of the largest marinas on Siesta Key. Our 1-, 2- and 3-bedroom units can be reserved for two weeks or for a longer stay. Every unit has a fully equipped kitchen - including full stove and dishwasher, complete linens, color cable HDTV and DVD, local phone service, and individually controlled heating and air conditioning. Decorating and furnishing styles in these individually owned and decorated condos are unique in each unit - from fashionable contemporary beach décor to modern or traditional. Many have screened or enclosed lanais, and all 2- and 3-bedroom units have two bathrooms.

Harbor Towers was a great stay!

Harbor Towers was a great stay! Free wifi in 3 areas public areas, digital message board kept my family up to date on events at Harbor Towers and Siesta Key. 2 pools, 4 barbecue grills, state of the art fitness center with new Precor equipment, Har-Tru tennis courts. Harbor Towers has all the amenities and my family will definitely be returning, just not soon enough!

Report: Sarasota, Bradenton real estate market experienced "correction" in July

The Sarasota-Bradenton area real estate market has undergone a "market correction," with conditions more similar now to those before the COVID-19 pandemic, than the supercharged a buying frenzy that resulted after the health crisis eased, with bidding wars and record prices, according to a report on July sales.

The Realtors Association of Sarasota and Manatee's most recent monthly report noted that both counties "experienced a cooling in market activity" in July, pointing to properties sitting on the market longer than has been typical over the past three years.

Other signs the real estate market has fully returned to pre-COVID conditions include the number of homes on the market above levels in 2019 and a decrease in the median price of a sold home. The pricing of properties just entering the market has also been on the decline.

Despite the less than rosy statistics, real estate professionals view a return to a balanced market as a good thing, when buyers have more leverage with sellers needing to be more realistic on pricing.

“The market is getting back to how it was before the pandemic, and while it might seem like things are cooling off, that's actually a good thing,” said Tony Barrett, 2024 Realtor Association of Sarasota and Manatee president and broker owner of Barrett Realty. “It means we're in a more balanced market, which is great news for both buyers and sellers.”

In July, Sarasota County property owners sold 642 single-family homes, which was 1.4% more than in July 2023. This indicates that demand for property has not evaporated, although the median price that a single-family home sold for fell 12.1% to $470,000, according to the RASM report.

The average sales price in Sarasota County also fell by 2.1% to about $679,000.

While it was a modest decrease in single-family home pricing in Sarasota, the number of properties for sale has increased dramatically, shooting up to 3,068 single-family homes for sale in Sarasota County — an increase of 59.5% comparing July 2023 to July 2024.

The average time to sell a home in Sarasota County has increased to 94 days, the highest it's been since early in the pandemic after Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis instituted a lock down in April 2020.

Real estate sales have extended closing periods, meaning the full impact of that lockdown wasn't felt until June and July 2020, where days to sale reached above 100 days.

Sarasota and Manatee counties typically experience slower markets in the summer where days to sale typically spike. Still, aside from the July and June 2020 spike, this is the longest it's taken to sell the median property in Sarasota County since June 2019.

Manatee County single-family homes saw a larger increase in closed sales than Sarasota at a 9.9% increase compared to July 2023 with 686 homes selling in July 2024. Still, the median home price decreased by 3.3% to $499,000. Average sales price increased by 3% to about $661,000, according to the statistics maintained by RASM.

A total of 2,488 single-family homes were for sale in Manatee County at the end of July, representing a 55.2% increase compared to July 2023. It will take longer to sell a property in Manatee County as the median home sold in 100 days in July.

Both Sarasota and Manatee counties saw declining median sales prices in the townhome and condo market. In Sarasota County, 285 multifamily properties were sold with the median sale price coming in at $365,000 — a 6.3% decrease from July 2023.

Manatee County had 225 closed sales in July with the median sale's price on those sales decreasing 6% compared to July 2023. The median sales price in Manatee county for a townhome or condo was $329,000.

Deep seas and tight spaces impede search for 6 missing after yacht sinks off Sicily

PORTICELLO, Sicily — (AP) — Police divers resumed searching Tuesday for six people believed trapped in the hull of a superyacht that sank in deep seas off Sicily, including British tech magnate Mike Lynch, who was celebrating his recent acquittal on fraud charges with the people who had defended him at trial.

The luxury sailboat, off Porticello near Palermo, was about 50 meters (164 feet) underwater — far deeper than most recreational divers are certified for and a depth that requires special precautions. Recovery crews could only stay for 12-minute shifts, a measure that slowed efforts to reach the cramped inside of the wreck.

Divers tag-teamed the shifts and were using a remote-controlled underwater vehicle, or ROV, to help in the search. They hadn't been able to access the below-deck cabins because they were blocked by furniture that shifted during the violent storm that struck the vessel early Monday. Rescue crews said they assume the missing six are in those cabins because the storm struck when most would be sleeping, but the teams haven't verified their presence there through portholes.

The Bayesian, a 56-meter (184-foot) British-flagged yacht, was moored about a kilometer (a half-mile) offshore when a storm rolled in before 4 a.m. Monday. Civil protection officials said they believed the ship was struck by a tornado over the water, known as a waterspout, and sank quickly .

Grainy film from closed-circuit cameras from shore, broadcast on the website of the Giornale di Sicilia, showed the majestic, illuminated 75-meter (246-foot) mast of the Bayesian weathering the storm and then disappearing over the course of a minute.

Fifteen of the 22 people aboard survived, including a mother who reported holding her 1-year-old baby over the waves to save her. One body was recovered, identified by officials as the Antiguan-born on-board chef. The rest of the 10-person crew survived, including the captain whom prosecutors reportedly sought to interview.

The survivors were rescued by a nearby sailboat after getting into a lifeboat.

Lynch, who was once hailed as Britain's king of technology, was cleared in June of fraud and conspiracy charges in a U.S. federal trial related to Hewlett Packard's $11 billion takeover of his company, Autonomy Corp. His wife, Angela Bacares, survived the sinking. Hannah Lynch, the couple's 18-year-old daughter, is reportedly unaccounted for.

Also unaccounted for are Christopher Morvillo, one of Lynch’s lawyers, and his wife, Neda; and Jonathan Bloomer, a chairman at Morgan Stanley International and the former head of the Autonomy audit committee who testified in Lynch’s defense, and his wife.

Karsten Borner, the captain of the Sir Robert Baden Powell, which rescued the survivors, said he was close enough to see the Bayesian as the storm came in.

“A moment later, she was gone,” he said.

“It’s a great, great tragedy,” said Britain’s ambassador to Italy, Edward Llewellyn, who visited Porticello on Tuesday. Britain sent four investigators to the scene, given the disaster involved a British-flagged ship and British citizens were among the missing.

Luca Cari, a spokesman for the rescue teams, said the search was proceeding much more slowly than another big shipwreck in Italy, the 2012 Costa Concordia cruise ship that flipped on its side off Tuscany's coast, because of the depth of the wreck and the limited space divers have to maneuver.

“That was much simpler. Here everything is more tight," he said.

The outing was intended at least in part as a celebration of Lynch’s acquittal and a “looking forward to what was coming next,” said Reid Weingarten, a Washington attorney and a member of Lynch’s defense team who was not on the yacht.

“A lot of people went, a lot of people were planning to go and then, of course, this happened,” Weingarten said.

Weingarten worked with Morvillo and said he “was like a brother.”

Aki Hussain, CEO of international insurer Hiscox Group, where Bloomer was chairman, said the company was “deeply shocked and saddened by this tragic event.”

“Our thoughts are with all those affected, in particular our Chair, Jonathan Bloomer, and his wife Judy, who are among the missing, and with their family as they await further news from this terrible situation,” he added.

Among the survivors, the Emslie family was released from Palermo's pediatric hospital on Tuesday. Charlotte Golunski had reported that she momentarily lost hold of her 1-year-old daughter, Sofia, in the water but then managed to hold her up over the waves until they were both pulled to safety, doctors said.

The father, identified by ANSA news agency as James Emslie, also survived.

“They don't talk much, primarily because they consider themselves survivors and they don't understand why they survived given what they went through,” said Dr. Domenico Cipolla, head of the emergency room at Di Cristina pediatric hospital.

Speaking to reporters Tuesday, Cipolla said the parents had been in touch with other survivors, who are being housed at a nearby hotel and were waiting for other family members to arrive in Sicily.

The Bayesian, built in 2008 by the Italian firm Perini Navi, is registered to Revtom Ltd., according to online maritime database Equasis. Bacares, Lynch's wife, is listed as Revtom's sole owner, according to corporate registration documents from the Isle of Man.

According to online charter companies, it had been available for charter for 195,000 euros (about $215,000) a week and was notable for its massive 75-meter-tall (246-foot-tall) aluminum mast, one of the tallest in the world.

The coast guard said to date there was no trace of fuel leaks from the wreckage.

In an unrelated event, Lynch's co-defendant in the Autonomy trial who was also cleared, Stephen Chamberlain, was killed Sunday when he was hit by a car while running in Cambridgeshire, England, said Chamberlain's lawyer, Gary Lincenberg.
