YACHT RENTAL IN VANCOUVER

Indio Navi is located on Granville Island, Vancouver in the heart of the city. Grandville Island Public Market is the epicentre for Vancouver’s culinary enthusiasm, making it a great place to stock the boat.

THE BAREBOAT EXPERIENCE

Pick a date, call about availability for 1 to 10 days, discuss the itinerary,  plan menus and organize shopping for supplies,  get reservations in place for marinas and restaurants, check out land based activities based on itinerary, pack your bags and get to Vancouver!

ACCOMODATION

What indio navi offers.

Indio Navi is a 56′ Dufour Sailing yacht with double helm, 2 guest cabins with linens, 2  bathrooms with linens, a well equipped galley, lots of storage, trip planning and provisioning service, a dinghy with oars,  regulation safety equipment, navigation charts and Vhf communication equipment.

IS CHARTERING FOR ME?

If you’re an experienced sailor you already know the answer to that question, right? Our boat manager will guide you through how this type of vacation will unfold and what a wonderful life style may be in your future!  You have the ability to customize your own charter experience.

Given the high end nature of the boat and it’s complexity, even experienced sailors will be asked to hire a skipper familiar with the vessel and approved by the owner.

YOUR VACATION EXPECTATIONS

This is an outdoor sporting and sight seeing vacation – as such there is no guarantee of perfect weather and ambitiously checking off every item on Plan A. We make many decisions based upon safety of the guests and the boat and suggest reviewing weather systems and distances to travel and comfort level of your crew several times daily.

COME ABOARD INDIO NAVI

Bedrooms:   There are 2 queen sized cabins on board.

Bathrooms: There are 2 bathrooms complete with shower, toilet and vanity.

Salon Area: There is a living | dining area with seating and a dining table below deck.  This can be converted for 3 more guests to use as a sleeping area.

Kitchen: Indio Navi has a well equipped kitchen with everything you need to prepare meals.

Deck: There is a large seating area and BBQ on deck.

Standard Occupancy : 4 guests

Maximum Occupancy : 7 guests

Note: Extra guests using the salon conversion will need to bring their own bedding and towels.

Great trip with Murray! From the offset Murray was super responsive and worked with me to set up an itinerary that our group would enjoy. He then reached out two days before our trip to let me know that his last customers had damaged his bathroom so we wouldn't have access to a toilet as the repairs were scheduled for the day after our trip. He was very apologetic and offered to let us cancel without penalty. When we told him we wanted to go forward with the trip, he, without solicitation, offered a generous discount. The trip itself was great - Murray took us to a number of beautiful spots and was great with all the guests (including a 10 and 9 year old). I'm already thinking about when we might be able to hire Murray again for our next group of out-of-town guests.

2024 Canadian Sailing Hall of Fame Induction to add Pat Healy and Steve Tupper

Kingston, August 29, 2024 – The Canadian Sailing Hall of Fame, Sail Canada and the Great Lakes Museum are pleased to announce that the class of 2024 will include two additional members, Pat Healy and Steve Tupper, to be inducted into the Canadian Sailing Hall of Fame, for now a total of 16.

The induction ceremony will take place Saturday, October 5th, 2024 , at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club , in British Columbia, from 2 pm to 5 pm . Details regarding tickets are available below.

Steve Tupper and Pat Healy will join the list of 2024 inductees into the Canadian Sailing Hall of Fame, which now will include:

The Canadian Sailing Hall of Fame is a collaboration between The Canadian Sailing Hall of Fame, the Great Lakes Museum (formerly known as Marine Museum of the Great Lakes at Kingston) and Sail Canada. Inductees must be Canadian citizens and can be inducted in any of the three categories: sailor, technical or contributor.

For the time being, inductees are chosen by the Canadian Sailing Hall of Fame Management Committee, with representation from across the country. The selection process is based on criteria established in the CSHOF By-Laws. In the future, it is intended that the nomination process will be opened up to the sailing public.

Get your tickets now Sailing fans can now buy tickets for the 2024 induction ceremony to be held at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club, 3811 Point Grey Road, Vancouver, B.C., from 2 pm to 5 pm on Saturday, October 5th, 2024.

The cost is $30 per person and includes a one-year membership to the Great Lakes Museum. Seating will be limited to 150 people with priority given to family and friends of the inductees. Dorothy from Minnesota, 96, comes to Victoria to see SV Dorothy, B.C.'s oldest active sailboat

A 96-year-old woman ticked off an item on her bucket list when she sailed into Victoria on what is believed to be British Columbia’s oldest locally built sailing vessel still in active service.

Dorothy Zimmerman, who came from Minnesota to Victoria specifically to see SV Dorothy, said she fell in love with the vessel when she learned of the 127-year-old boat’s restoration project.

“I’m just 30 years younger than [SV] Dorothy,” said Zimmerman, who turns 97 in October.

The Victoria-built sailboat had been sitting in a shed on Gabriola Island for more than a decade as the Maritime Museum of B.C. gathered the funds needed for a refit.

Angus Matthews, who sits on the museum’s board of directors, said he and Zimmerman struck up a lively three-year correspondence over email about the 30-foot wooden sailboat.

When Zimmerman found out that SV Dorothy was coming into Victoria, she was determined to visit.

“I’ve got to live long enough to get out here,” she said.

She would do more than just see the boat. On Wednesday, Zimmerman donned a pink puffer jacket and sun visor and steered SV Dorothy into the Inner Harbour as part of a five-person crew.

She navigated with just her left arm, as her other arm was still recovering from a broken bone.

Matthews said special permission from the harbourmaster was required to sail SV Dorothy into the harbour.

On Friday, Zimmerman, who has sailed for more than six decades, was still basking in the experience.

“When you get out there on the water, you’ve got something with Mother Nature that gets in your soul,” she said.

SV Dorothy returned to local waters in 2023 after a 21-year hiatus following extensive restoration conducted by Gabriola Island shipwright Tony Grove and volunteers at the Ladysmith Maritime Society.

Matthews said since SV Dorothy was relaunched, it has been used at yacht clubs across South Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands this summer for young sailors to train on for their first sailing certifications.

“Most of them are age 11 to 12,” he said. “It’s been wonderful just showing off maritime heritage and the vintage days of sail.”

Commissioned in 1897 by William Henry Langley, a barrister who would go on to be a clerk of the Legislative Assembly in 1922, SV Dorothy was built before construction of the Empress Hotel and the Inner Harbour causeway.

Langley owned and raced SV Dorothy for 47 years.

The vessel went through another dozen private owners before being donated to the Maritime Museum of B.C. by Kim Pullen in 1995.

Matthews said SV Dorothy is now under the care of Robert Lawson of the Ladysmith Maritime Society when it is docked in Ladysmith.

The museum hopes that SV Dorothy can eventually find a permanent home in Victoria’s Inner Harbour, he said.

But for now, SV Dorothy will be at the Inner Harbour as part of the Classic Boat Festival, which started Friday and continues until Sunday.

Close to 100 boats from across the Pacific Northwest are on display. Festival admission is a one-time suggested donation of $5 per person for the whole weekend.

All the vessels that are part of the show will sail past the Ogden Point Breakwater at 11 a.m. Sunday, a highlight of the festival, Matthews said.
